The new Audi 4.0 V8. In two versions

    http://www.leftlanenews.com/report-b...of-new-v8.html

according to a new report it will come in two varieties (both applied to bentley, in this case).

single turbo with ~415-435 hp (think S6 and S7)

twin turbo with ~525-600 hp (think RS6, S8, new R8 and lambo gallardo)
    Past- A4, TT, S4

    Present- R8 V10

At no point in this or any other report has Audi models been mentioned. I don't disagree with your figures though at the moment all we know for certain is that Audi developed the engine and two versions are available.

I also don't think we can presume that what Bentley will get, power, torque and where it will be produced in the rev range will necessarily mean Audi S and RS versions will get the same, difference customers and expectations, nor can we go as far as to presume that each model will receive the same level of tune because if the R8 or future Lambo get this engine then their requirements may be totally different. I do concur that this is a global engine that will be used in multiple applications across several brands within the Volkswagen empire.

true on that. got kind of excited when posting. for sure this is the future of the aforementioned models- with a variable output according to application. i am most curious about the transmission that will be chosen.

Oh this is so nice!!!! Can't wait!
Does it say if they gonna discontinue V8 4.2 (372ps) and V6 3.0 (290ps version)!
    Thanks

I do not think they will remove the 3.0, but rather only 4.2

Yeah, but have you noticed there will be 3.0 with 333ps?! so it's quite likely to discontinue lower rated version (290ps)! keeping them both - I don't think so!

Did you not notice that the 3.0TDi (bi-turbo) is bypassing the 540d and producing a class leading 313hp.

740d has 306 bhp which is within 2% of the 3.0 Bi TDI, more likely torque and fuel consumption will be the deciding factor.

Great news though on the engine front, any info about the 220 hp 2.0 Bi TDI speculated for the new A3 ?

2011 is the year Audi catches up to BMW engine wise. NICE

------------------------------those numbers are absolutely perfect. and show that the S6/S7 are easily capable of 420 hp. these engines will be easily tunable i would assume. the S8 engine will be tunable to close to 600 hp. what a beast. some of you may not believe it (nor i) but i am begining to feel that maybe the V10 will not go into the new R8 and gallardo.

So, when 3.0 V6 bi-turbo TDI is launched, 4.2 V8 TDI is going to be thing of past, or what...?

I doubt it, the bigger 4.2TDi still has a noticeable power and torque advantage and being a v8 should also mean it will continue to make a better noise.

Diesels are famous for everything but their ''good'' noise!
