Any way here are the numbers.
0-100km/h: 4.6s
0-160km/h:10.8s
0-200km/h:16.7s
400m 13.0s(178km/h)
60-100km/h: 4.9s/6.6s(4/5)
80-120km/h: 6.3s/8.7s(5/6)
Weight: 1632kg
I must admit purely taken on the figures it does sound poor, but it's very similar to a 997Carerra 4S and AM V8 Vantage, both of which are direct rivals to the R8.
How did the rest of the test go, for example handling, balance, steering, comfort, drivability etc?

Thx for the info. It seems to me that the R8 is continuing the streak slightly volatile and inconsistent acceleration outcomes across different tests already witnessed for the RS4 - these are far worse than the Autozeitung and Car & Driver figures. But did they like it? Slalom and lane maneouvering? 5 stars?
Yes, five star...
Here are some highlights of the article:
> perfect GT for a mature clientele
> perfect for sportscar beginners, as the car is very well balanced and forgiving
> very good chassis which certainly can handle more hp (of course we all know that it has to very soon )
> they liked the engine (very elastic, nice sound)
> clutch is very easy to operate, smooth start off the line etc.
> precise gearbox
> steering: if you have to sneeze while keeping your hands on the wheel, the car won't change direction
> 200 km/h feels like 130 km/h....
> despite the 4wd you can evoke some mild oversteer when playing with the throttle
> car is very comfortable for long distance spins
BTW, here are the RS4 Saloon numbers from AMS 20/2005
0-100km/h: 4.7s
0-160km/h:11.0s
0-200km/h:17.2s
400m: 13.1s(174km/h)
60-100km/h: 5.0s/6.8s(4/5)
80-120km/h: 6.4s/8.4s(5/6)
Speed in gears:
68/116/161/219/258/280(all in km/h)
Here I posted version with quattro Gmbh limiter(280km/h)
Weight: 1778kg
...and both models of 997 also from AMS:
997 Carrera S
0-100km/h: 4.7s
0-160km/h:10.6s
0-200km/h:16.5s
1469kg
Porsche 997 Carrera S(X51) with -20mm/LSD
0-100km/h: 4.4s
0-160km/h: 9.8s
0-200km/h:15.0s
1478kg
Thx again for the info! Well, R8 = a AWD 911 for 50Y old busy professionals as their 2nd or 3rd car then it seems...as I very much suspect was the intention. But I must say that the hard numbers could have been better - it is too close to my RS4 at least in this test.

very surprised The RS4 is just equal to the R8 in terms of chronos
The figures are very disappointing but like anything their only tell half the story. The biggest disappointment is the weight of the tested R8, 1860kgs, now where did that come from. That places the R8 with all it's alloy shell a good 100Kgs heavier than any RS4 I have seen tested and has 4 doors, a boot and 5 seats.
Could this have been a misprint.:eye:

It's surprising result and very different from MR USER's own opinions of the car and that's a person who's day to day drive is a RS4.

Leadie,
You simply do not know German and then you are making totally wrong conclusions...
Weight is Leergewicht in German. R8 is measured by AMS at 1632kg's.
Your quote is Gross Weight Limit...
Review is legit as possible. Only thing is that this example of R8 has only 2000km's on clock, on the other hand the one used in AZ has more then 8000km's on clock...
We all know that RS4(and apparently R8) engine needs some km's to fully loose up so this may be the case here... But, even 0-200km/h in 15.2s is marginally slower then factory number(14.9s)...
KresoF1,
Alas the only language I speak perfectly is Bullshitty.
So the true figure was 1632Kgs, well that's what I would expect, but not the figures that accompanied it.

You know what, magazines and writers can write whatever they want about the R8. Me - I have bought one and as of Dec will be driving it every day. So while all of these so called "experts" publish their "opinions" of the R8 I will have the advantage of being able to form my own opinion every time I go downstairs and put my key in the ignition
