What do you think of the R8

The latest spypics of the R8

When you look at the side view, you can understand why so many believe it's a 2+2 and not just a 2 seater, there does look to be the space.

Though the design has suppose to have changed little from the Le Mans concept, I for one am starting to rate the Gallardo the better looking design and even the new TT is nicer looking.

Those are not terribly flattering pictures.

Looks a bit like the designer lost interest at the rear end of the car.

I hope that rear reflective doesn't make production.

I actually don't mind the front or the rear, it's the glass and roof area that I have the problem with. I look at it and there now looks way too much glass area compared to bodywork below this if you know what I mean.

When you look at the TT or Gallardo, this area is much small than the R8 and as such making the rest of the car look bigger. But with the R8, it makes it look like a MPV version of a Gallardo in the same way as the Golf Plus looks compared to the Golf.

Maybe this was done to give it 2+2 seating and if so I can see the point of it. But if this is not the case, why do it, what was the point. Also with the cab so forward it makes the rear of the car look like a Le Mans version of the MacLaren F1, out of proportion with the rest of the car.

Another thing why do the front have such to big overhang when there isn't an engine in there?

It's AUDI, so, i must like it!!!

I don't know why are everybody talking about 2+2, where they going to put engine, and why is the filler cap on the midlle of the car?

I like the R8, because it's an Audi supercar, but i think the design is a little outdated allready. At the time of the concept it was stunning, but the 'audi design 2006' seems to have made a big step forward.

And i also don't know where that 2+2 thing comes from, it's based on a Gallardo and has almost the same engine, so i guess there won't really be much space. (maybe they mean 2adults+2littlebabies?)
The best Audi is the Gallardo :D

    Dear Friends,

these Shots show a early Zero Series Car. Dont worry about what you are missing right now, in the end you will be satisfied.

I hope you are right. When the Le Mans concept came out it was drop dead gorgeous, but what they have done to the example in these pictures have turned it into something that looks out of proportion in MHO.

Please compare these two side shot.
    First a Gallardo

    Secondly the R8

You must admit that the glass area does look to tall compared to that of the Lambo. These are the reasons why I was stating that it might be a 2+2, I was not saying that it was a matter of fact.

If Audi are trying to make the cab area bigger to suit the American market, I believe with this example they have no longer got a car that looks like a supercar.

It is going to look awesome, IMO. Here are some much better photos.

This one looks much better, partly because of the much more aggresive wheels.

    Here are more photos.

    That black one is Sweeeet!

I think definitive judgement will have to be reserved for when we all see it undisguised for the first time, and then when we see it in the flesh.

The Gallardo, in my eyes is one of the best looking cars out there and everytime I see one I can't believe just how small it is. The Gallardo Spyder is just drop dead gorgeous.

The R8's glasshouse does seem a little bulbous...and I to agree with leadfoot that from the side profile the glass area does look too big and gives the car a 'skinny' waist that does not help. As for the front overhang, I dont think that it is much longer than the Gallardo's and any extra length can only aid luggage capacity. Don't foget, the R8 is competing against the 911, not the Gallardo, and therefore it does have to offer added practicality to be used day to day.

If the front overhang were much shorter, the cabin would have to move further back on the car to keep a balanced design and this would not be possible due to the mid-engine config.

The Gallardo overcomes the cab forward look by installing front quarter windows and repositioning the wing mirrors further towards the rear of the car. The rake of the front creen along with the front quarter windows and the rake of the bonnet help to give the Gallardo its wedge look.

All in all, I think the R8 will be one of the best looking Audi's and quite possibly one of the better looking cars in production, but I don't think it will quite match the Gallardo.

I basically like it. Blind spot from the C pillar will be enormous, though. And creating more luggage room than a 911 isn't much of a challenge.
