RS6 color sprayouts for U.S. residents

for anyone interested living in the U.S. i FINALLY received from
the paint manufacture we use at my body shop, the color
formulas for mugello blue and daytona grey. for people living in
europe this is no big deal, but for us in the U.S. most of us have
never seen these colors in real life. the spray outs that i have are
real paint spray outs and not color coded paper like they show
you at the dealer. anyone living in the states who is interested
feel free to send me a p.m. and i will send you a sprayout.

i realize that you might be getting these too late to change your
order but it took me months to finally get these color formulas.
after all keep in mind this car is still several months from reaching
the U.S. and most paint manufactures wait till the vehicle is here
before they worry about the color for it. for those who think it's
worth it to make a better decision try to stall your dealer and i
will send you a sprayout as early as tommorrow. btw both colors
look fantastic (with mugello being more in your face and daytona
being more stealth). hope this will help in a big decision

    wrong blue?

recently, i learned from john hulbrock that the sample of
mugello blue that i sent out may be wrong. from his sales
person who saw the color in arizona and from the pics posted
by jconley this may be the case. the pics posted by the brit
however, look very similar to the sample i received from my
paint manufacture. unfortunately i can only vouch for the
daytona grey since i have seen both the color on the car and
    samples in person.

i did REcheck with my paint company about the mugello blue
and they DID confirm that the formula they sent me was in fact
the mugello blue that was given to them by AUDI/ VW. the only
thing i can say is that this problem will need to be corrected
before people take delivery of their cars. the reason being that
if owners of mugello blue cars get into an accident, when they
take their car to a shop to be repaired the shop wont have the
correct color. this will slow down repairs.

so if in fact the samples of blue i sent out are not correct then
all i can say is sorry. but please remember that this is audi of
north america's mix up and not mine. i can only give you what
they give me. hope this doesn't confuse or make anyone upset.
    sorry again

I showed the colors to my salesperson (who was in AZ a couple weeks ago) and he thought the blue sample was definately lighter than the color was in person.

The grey was a good match though (again, according to my salesperson).

Both the daytona grey and the blue are fantastic colours and non of you will be dissapointed with either...

I went with the daytona which is a pearl effect and really does shine with a coat or two of zymol on it.. it is more of a stealth colour and the car doesn't particularly stand out in daytona... which suits me fine with car crime in the Uk.

The Blue is lot more distinctive and is a deep navy.. again pearl effect so it really shines. I like the blue, but have no regrets on the grey.

The only colour I don't like on the RS is the red.. (oh and the yellow from another post!)

Talking I'll compare it for youif you send me one!

I'll photograph one against my car if you send me one over!

The photos I've taken do seem to me to be fairly representative of the actual appearance of Mugello, at least in British weather conditions. In sunnier climates it may look different again.

There's more pictures from the same time as the ones I posted here.

    to the Brit,

i'll definately send you a sample since your the only one who
owns that color. BTW, for those that are ordering mugello blue
don't worry about the shop not having the right color. they can
always send in the gas door lid for their paint company to do a
computer match. it will only take a couple of days

OK, you now have my postal address.

Interesting that shops over there can match the colour from an existing panel - over here paint shops expect the paint colour code from the information plate that's usually somewhere in the engine bay or the trunk.

that's actually the same way it's done here. but don't forget if
audi gave the paint companies the wrong color for that code than
that code is useless to us and we then have to do it manually.

I doubt the ability of some paint shops here to colour match even if given the correct paint code - I'd rather drive to Germany to pick up some paint from the factory rather than trust them to colour match from an existing painted part!

    i here you

the sad thing though is the the car manufactures still have to
buy the paint just like the repair shops (only in huge amounts).

most german car companies use glassurit, spies hecker, and
standox. american car companies use dupount, sherwin williams
and PPG. japanese use nippon. the really sad fact is that the
paint given to customer does not always macth their cars
anyway. sometimes during the paint process the assembly line
runs out of paint and they simply add more paint to the vat. they
often don't even check first to make sure it matches! as long as
it's close (time is money!) oh well, i'm talking too much again

Sprayout Mugello Blue - it is too light

    Ben,

I got the sprayout samples this morning in the post. I showed them to my wife, for she has a much better eye for colour than I do. Straight away she said the blue was too light. She says that the sample you sent over looks more like a Royal Blue, where Mugello is more a Prussian Blue.

She's right - Mugello is darker than that paint code you've been given.

I've taken a couple of pictures, I just wish I washed the car at the weekend instead of going to the pub!

In these pictures, the sample looks a lot lighter than the car, in reality the differnence is slightly less, but the sample is certainly lighter. If anyone with a Mugello on order has seen Moro blue was on some TTs, Mugello is almost half-way between Moro and the sample.

Hope these are of some use to somebody!
