Rubbing with HRE C22 Wheels

Looking to see if anyone else had issues with 19" wheels rubbing. The new HRE C22 are rubbing very frequently with any significant bump or hard turn in the road. The rubbing is against the plastic shield inside the fender. The front wheels rub more than the rear as you would expect. It was much more frequent with 4 people in the car this evening. I also, now have 2 warning lights for the brakes and ABS system. I'll check them via VAG in the morning to get the error codes.

I love the new wheels, but didn't see anyone else with this issue. The tires are Pirelli Pzero Rosso Asimetrico 255/35/19. The wheels are 19x8.5.

Anyone else with this problem?

Figured out the problem this morning...I have the wrong tires. AWE put on the Pirelli Pzero Asimmetrico System model not the Rosso model Asimmetrico's as I ordered. I compared the treads and clearly the cause for the rubbing. I'll need to have them changed out next week.

I don't doubt that different tires might help, but I don't think it's a matter of P zero vs. Rosso. Both words are used to describe the same tires at tirerack.com

This is a link to Pirellis available for the RS6 without TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system), which would include all cars made for the US.

His new wheels are 19 inchers; we only got the 18 s in the US, so I would look to see what tires were on the Euro cars; provided the wheel offsets are correct. Hard to believe that HRE wouldn't have that down for the RS6 by now.

By the way, I love the look of those wheels.

If you check the specs on the Pzero vs. Rosso, the Pzero's are a 0.4 of an inch higher (diameter is 26.5 vs. 26.1) and 0.6 of an inch wider (10.1 vs. 10.7 tread width), I am hopefull that is the problem.

Those links did not work, at least on my computer.

There are two versions of the PZero Rosso tires: One is called asimmetrico, the other is called direzionale, and yes there are some differences.

My link (3 posts above) leads to 18" size; below is the Tirerack site for 19" Pirellis to fit the RS6. There is one at the bottom that does not say Rosso ("System" instead, per BlackRS6), but it still says Pzero. So -- it appears they are all Pzero, but some Pzeros are Rosso and some are System:

Confusing, eh?

One other thought: A one-time contributor here named Noushy had 19" HREs with matching Pirellis and no rubbing problem. I know because we met one day and drove each other's cars with three guys aboard. Maybe you should contact him, or check out related posts with a search for HRE under Noushy's name.

You can see there is a significant difference in rim width, sect. width, diameter, and revs per mile.

Names are awful close and can create confusion when ordering. I'll stop replying to myself on this thread now...just want to make sure no one else made the same mistake. I hope this fixes the issue, it seems likely that it will.

Pirelli rossos or continentals are what is run on the aussie 19" european spec five spoke wheels with out rubbing problems.

If you run any 19"tyres with kerb protectors- eg michelin ps2, they will rub on the front.
