Audi R9: Based on Le Mans Concept but will look very different.

The story is that Audi CEO "Martin Winterkorn" have tolted during a speech that the "Audi R9" will be based on the
"Le Mans Quattro" concept car but will going to look very different.
Further Audi will going to choose between a V10 or V8 engine.
The "R9" will be produced approx 4000-5000 per year and will cost between the price of a TT Mk2 and a Gallardo.

Very different huh? Hmm, that could good or bad.

Between the price of a TT and Gallardo? So between $40K-$150K. Wow, that really narrows it down!

    Yes, very different.

I would be surprised if the two-tone body work makes it into production. I would also expect to see a window behind the B-pillar and a revised rear window to improve visibility.

If the Auto Motor und Sport article is correct, it would be a shame if the front LED headlights didn't make into production. They are immensely cool.

Surprisingly, the Le Mans concept seems to be a bit dated already, especially versus the Nuvolari, which frankly was Audi's best ever design effort IMHO.

The Gallardo is still class of the field in terms of looks and the R9 or whatever it will finally be called, needs to look sensational. But I don't think any of us will be disappointed when we see it.

I wish I could fast-forward to 2007 to see what everyone has said about it!

maybe it'll look more like the RSQ which was designed later. i am actually happy it might come in only one trim (one engine). it will make it more transcendental and focused in its niche, i.e. audi's halo car.

i really doubt the LEDs will make it to production- though i will still hope they do.

i honestly think the RS4's V8 would be sufficient. coupled to a DSG it would be perfect. the goal should be to make it the most nimble and best handling audi ever. by keeping the mass down with a V8 audi would be better off. this could also keep the cost down and still allow this machine to hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. it will outperform any bmw ever madde, including a potential M6 CSL.

any quicker and it will be necessarily be more expensive and start to compete with an updated gallardo that will probably do 0-60 in 3.7 seconds or so (about the same as the F430).

i honestly think that with the V8 they could make this car cost around 100-110K and would take the price point by storm, outcompeting porsche, giving audi amazing image boost, and be incredibly desirable.

lastly, the silver panel should be kept. that is the foundation for this car's design

That silver panel is made from aluminium and i also think it is the foundation of the car.
I have send 3 PM's to the moderator to restore the images above but stil no respons, there for a new introduction of the picture.

The picture above is a design sketch of John Vicente and i think it look amazing with also the silver panel as the base of the car.
