i have never owned an ipod
didnt need it.. got a minidisc recorder/player about 5-6 years ago.
was the real deal back then.
the new ones are quite impressive.. a 1gb disc.
rec anything.. use any input thru the same 3.5 jack.
but now that they have an mp3 reader in the nav+... no need for anything else
