power steering pump replace - Audi 100 unit compatible?

Found this thread on another forum: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...mp-replacement

Seems to indicate the Audi 100 pump (e.g. this one from eBay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Power-S...5akIVi&vxp=mtr) is a valid replacement that just has a little bit less power assist.

    two questions:

    1) anyone know if this works or am I being stupid trying to save a couple hundred bucks?

    2) anyone know offhand how many bolts i need to replace on the pump if I want to go ahead and replace the hardware while it's being replaced? (M8 X 35mm) Reading the bentley pages online it looks like 6 but wanted to ask

I do not have any experience with the Audi 100 pump. From the outside, they appear to be the same as the RS6/S6/A6-4.2 units. However, comparing across multiple aftermarket manufacturers (rockauto) the 100 pump has different part numbers.

I personally have used the CARDONE 215095 with no issues to report.

From memory, the pump has 3 bolts on the pulley and 3 on the body (2 front, 1 back). I do not recall sizes though.

For what it's worth, I replaced mine about 3 yrs ago now with one from ORrielly's - it was the original German pump (a rebuild - life time Warramty) I believe it was about $100. No issues. Make sure you turn the wheel (motor off) after installing the new one and adding fluid, you need to purge the air.

The pumps are made by ZF. The pump also looks the same as what's on my 2 Porsche 944 Turbos. I think BMW uses one just like it too. It would be interesting to find if the pump outputs are different.
