Is an 08 S6 with 170K worth anything?
Black with grey interior. Looks OK but big dent in quarter panel. Looking at it tomorrow at an auction. Do the V10's have timing belts or chains? Is the tipronic an issue with those miles? Anything to watch out for? Is $3-$4K too much to pay?

You can buy one w 100k miles for 8-10k
it really comes down to what you expect from the car. Yeah 3-4 is not much but if you start dumping money in that car it becomes the 8-10k car real quick.

Just a car on the bucket list. Drive it a month or two and sell.

Timing chain. 170K should've had it serviced at least once.
Tiptronic is fairly robust, but at that miles I'd still be careful.
Watch for evidence of oil consumption (blue smoke, oily exhaust). Can be an indication of bore scoring.
Ceramic brakes will be a huge bill, if they need replacement.
Carbon buildup in the intake, faulty air flaps, clogged cats, etc - won't prevent car from running, but may rob power.

Yeah then look for carbon deposits. You will see codes and even intake flapper issues due to carbon.
If its plugged up it wont perform like the car it's supposed to be.
