The brakes feel perfectly fine. My mechanic said if could be one of many sensors in the antilock brake system. I think the guys who write the code for the ECU should go hang themselves. Why not have more info dumped out than such a cryptic piece of information if indeed there are other 'sensors' which are giving input to the ECU, then there should be an accounting of such information?

A faulty vac pump, or a leak in the hose/tubing or a bad booster vac supply check valve, or a bad brake booster are all possible causes for the 17887 DTC stored.
This "bug" in vacuum system can also be related to your SAI troubles (if you're not getting the vacuum to SAI solenoid - it can't open combi valves).
