Mech Oh man, code P0741 Just popped up on my car!!!

Guys, CEL just came up for the first time in my ride. Checked it with scanner and code P0741 popped up. I looked it up and it is saying possible torque Converter. Has anyone had this code pop up recently?? I'm at the 88,000 mile mark in my RS6. Please suggestions!!!! I'm hearing the TC job can run anywhere between $8,000 to $9,000. I'm in NJ and not too far from 517 trans..... Please Help!!!!! I heard tozo has plenty of knowledge in the trans situation....

If you aren't too far away from 517- I suggest going out to 517 and speak with Sam. Tozo is obviously a top grade choice as well. Here is a recent thread with same code.

The TC only shouldn't be that much to replace...like 2 grand around here.

A whole tranny replacement tho might be that 8 or 9 grand...

Pretty common code across the whole line of 4.2 motored cars before 2004.

They started using better seals in the torque converters later on.

You may have a unique and short opportunity to replace the tc and have the problem go away. Wait too long and the tc will start sending burnt fluid to the rest of the trans

What he said. TQ is $400-500. Labour $1,200 - $3,000 depending on who does your work. Lifespan for tranny after seeing this error code occur for the first time varies wildly. I drove with this exact code for 30000 miles prior to having complete failure of my tranny. Others have driven less. What's not in dispute is that the Gen 1 TQ on these cars is CRAP as is the Gen 1 DRC.

Good to hear 517 is close. As others have noted...dont do just the tc.

you could try fluid and filter. and just drive it for a few thousand miles. We had a thread on this topic a few months ago.

somebody ran 30,000 miles with this code.

Will inquire on the cost for complete job tomorrow and will most likely do the fluid and filter change as I save for the job. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the help!!!
