Price discrepancy on Milltek downpipes, can anyone explain?

    Hey guys,

I was just looking up prices on certain modifications for the RS 6 and came across Milltek downpipes. I see them listed on most sites at ~$4,000 (ex. http://www.3zero3motorsports.com/sto...downpipes-cats) but THMotorsports has them for ~$3,000 (http://thmotorsports.com/milltek_spo.../i-146134.aspx). Can anyone tell me the difference? They both appear to be catted. *shrug*

I'm not sure of the reason for the price difference but either way they are overpriced and unnecessary. The major restriction on the exhaust side of a stock turbo RS6 is the two pre-cats by the turbos. Gutting these out frees up about the same power you'd get from a $3-4K pair of aftermarket downpipes such as the Milltek pipes.

I did this on my B7 S4 and it was noticeable power. You just need to have an ECU flash to tune out the precat O2's. You will still pass smog as the pre-cats just do their job when the car is cold. Once things warm up the main cats do all the work. I even passed CA smog with no pre-cats (but I flogged the hell out of it before going in).

10SecS4, does your tune remove the pre-cat O2's?

Yep, when I removed my fully catless DP's (to pass emissions) and installed my fully catted DP's, I needed to reflash the car...ran like poo poo....

You cannot remove the precat O2's, they are doing all the work (with your MAF's)..the rear O2's can be removed and coded out....

Oops, yes. Sorry. Said it backwards. The downstream O2's need to be deleted with an ECU flash.

With the stock tune, it'll set a CEL if you gut the pre-cats. You need to either run spark plug non-foulers or a tune that properly codes them out.

I went with Catless Millteks on my car and they were $1000. It is still a lot of money, but they are about 1/4" larger diameter and OEM quality, actually with better bends. With the Pre-cats only removed I did not get a CEL, only with going Catless, and then only on the right side for some reason.

Correct retail on the catted DP's is $3999. The catless versions are $1049. These o2 spacers have small catalysts in them and do an excellent job of keeping cat efficiency codes from showing up:

I don't think it's as much a discrepancy as it is a crime...

Had a high flow 3" cat on the WRX, $650 for one DP....yep, $2k per pipe is a bit crazy, but small quantity manufacturing will drive up price. Cool that somebody makes these for the RS6...
