Currently driving the RS6 and a '04 VW Phaeton as a daily drive. A few ex. cars, '01 Audi A6 2.5TDI, '02 Audi A6 2.5TDi Quattro, BMW 318i, 330i, Merc. SLK, Jaguar X-type and others...
is it pretty easy to import a personal car into Abu Dhabi if you're going to work there for a couple years? I'm kicking around the idea of taking a job there.

the process is quite simple i would say, compared to Europe, the biggest headache would be the logistics to have the car shipped here but usually the shipping company will also take care of the import papers. Basically you'd have to pay a 5% fees, based on the car's value, which will be determined by the UAE authorities according to their catalog, again their price is going to be higher than the market's price, i guess that's almost everywhere ! Depending on what car you want to bring, you'd have to make sure is going to handle well the hot climate here, it gets really hot in the summer and the AC and cooling system must be up to date if you want to drive with no worries! If you decide to come, let me know and i i'll do my best to help you out with what i can !
    Ex.: 2004 Audi RS6 C5 ABT, Milltek non-resonated, 19" RS4 B7 rims, RNS-E - SOLD
    2004 AUdi RS6 C5, SE exhaust, RNS-E, 19' original rims - SOLD
Now :2009 Audi RS6 C6 - stock yet pretty fast

Wow! You got me beat by a bit! I was 23 when I bought, I'm now about to turn 25. Still on the lower end of the demographic, but I think it will stable out in the high 20's low 30's average in a couple years. the prices will get into range for younger buyers however the cost to own will keep them from falling into the wrong hands. There will sadly be a few that will end up trashed due to people who can't afford the upkeep. That will be the ideal time for more people to pursue 01E and Avant projects.

Luckily I did copious amounts of research on the car before I decided to buy it. I was very aware of the upkeep cost and I meticulously take care of my baby

I'm glad! but I'm also guessing anyone who goes to the effort to join this forum probably cares enough about their car to maintain it properly, other forums maybe not so much, but as mentioned before this is the crem de la crem of car forums.

30 years old, working for the US Government (peon IT Specialist) - my saving grace to being able to buy the RS6 was buying a house when the market took a dump in 2008, and turning it around this year for a bit of profit.
Other cars: Currently, just the '99 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (giving me fits at the moment, EBTCM is dying and pretty sure the crank position sensor needs replacing again, started stalling randomly at low speed)
Previous other cars: 2006 BMW X5 4.4i - another money pit..., 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (wish I'd kept this one), 1998 Volvo S70-T5, 1997 Pontiac Firebird (totaled, got hit by a drunk), 1983 Buick Regal limited (rustbucket), and 1981 Saab 9000 (totaled, hit by a truck at 999,989 miles)
#905530 - Brilliant Black on Ebony. Sorted, running strong, ready for a new owner.
No, I am not the board admin - that's Erik (from Sweden), I'm Other_Erik (from the US)

Curt, I haven't been on the board fo quite a while, so I didn't see your post, I was born october 26, 1944, so the oldest one gets to buy the beer when we will have the chance to meet.
On another topic, I noticed the thread derailed a bit to motorcycle issues, which was very interesting. I will contribute my 2cents by telling you that my father aquired a Czechoslovaquian
motorcycle when I was 8 years old, (no whistling, please...) a red Jawa CZ, if I recall right, with my father doing the driving, my 18 year old brother in the middle and I playing caboose. my father never learn to properly handle a bike, since he tended to hug the gas tank with his knees instead of splaying out his feet to rebalance in the event of a skid, so most of the time, my brother & I jumped away at the first signs of an inminent fall, which was quite often, like the time my father and I ran over a dog who appeared from nowwhere on a little town cobblestone street, barking furiously at us, having the misfortune to run under the front wheel, ending up under the motorcycle that I couln't pull up to free my dad and the dog. When some locals came to the rescue, the dog ran away, howling like, well, a scalded dog. Or the time when my brother and I came very close to T- bone a taxicab, when he skidded the bike sideways and I entered the cab thru the rear window, to the cabbie amazement. Fortunately,in all that time, none of us was seriously hurt, up to the time the bike had its untimely demise under the wheels of a steamroller. But thatīs another story. Anyway, I do like bikes, and live vicariously the emotion of riding thru the races on Moto GP and other venues, and I have an inmense respect for the guys who can manhandle them right on the limit, that requires the skill an balls that I humbly admit, I don't have. So, goodspeed to you bikers, and lots of luck.
