Replacing pads and flushing the brake fluid...

Guys,

What pads do you recommend? I recently purchased new rotors and don't want to put some super abrasive pads on that would chew up my new rotors. Should I go to ceramic? semi metallic? Which ones are softer?

Also - what brake fluid do you recommend I flush with?

Ceramic are the least noisy, least dusty and the most rotor friendly. I am still on the OE pads and rotors so I won't be able to comment on the Hawk and Ferrodo, EBC, etc brands for the RS6. Have had great experience with ceramic ATE and Centric on my other VW/Audi cars.

As far as brake fluid as long as it's DOT 4 you are good to go. I am partial to the Pentosin brand but that's just personal preference. DOT 4 is DOT 4, also what the book calls for in the 6.

There are many good brake fluids out there. If your not one to flush your brake fluid regularly then you may want to sacrifice a little dry boiling for a higher wet boiling point (I do mine annually and just before & after I take it on the track). Do a search but here is a start.

In short, personally speaking, for the money it's hard to beat EBC pads. Either Yellow or Bluestuff. Both are aramid fiber. The yellow pads work fantastic and and rotor friendly, not bad on dusting. Have Blues and new OE rotors waiting for installation on my personal machine-- will see how those Blues work out....

Soft Organic pads won't do the car justice. Could actually be a bit of a hair raiser...."ask" how I know.

Since DOT4LV (low viscosity) came out last year, have been using it in Pentosin brand. German. Synthetic. The LV is better suited to the ABS/ESP system. Brakes are generally more responsive in daily use, too.

How long have you had the car, Paul? Anything done to it worthy of mention?
