Yup - it's true. No bogus badges or body kits, it's an RS6 purchased new that was mated to a donor S6 rear body in 2004. I've been enjoying seeing it for 7 years, although I'm not really an Avant person - so no jealousy on my part.

Nice spy shot!
It looks odd w/o the roof rails, though.
Hard to believe someone had the cajones to do that to their new RS6.
Back just looks flat...interesting ride, doesn't look as aggressive...

now that's a rare car in US , in Europe is the opposite, if you look for a sedan on mobile.de, there are less than 30 RS6 C5, but over 200 Avants....here in UAE i saw only 1 Avant, and it was imported from Germany, so if i'll take my car back to Europe when i'm done here i'll be part of a limited group of RS6 C5 sedan owners , which is good 'cause they tend to be pricier
Ex.: 2004 Audi RS6 C5 ABT, Milltek non-resonated, 19" RS4 B7 rims, RNS-E - SOLD
2004 AUdi RS6 C5, SE exhaust, RNS-E, 19' original rims - SOLD
Now :2009 Audi RS6 C6 - stock yet pretty fast
Interesting, thanks for posting.

So, am I reading correctly. They original owner chopped an S6 Avant and an RS 6 saloon both in half, and then combined the two?

i guess he transplanted the mechanics and interior onto the S6 body shell, but as someone said, he must've had some grande cojones to do this to a brand new RS6
just red again...so it looks like, mated the halves of the two body shells, really big cojones

Somewhere there is at least 1 real RS6 Avant in the US as it is on the list of approved cars to import from the NHTSA (must be done through an importer as there are a number of minor changes that must be done to seat belts and such.)
