no flames please - adding a trailer hitch to the RS6?

The manual states that the RS6 should never be used for towing, and I've never seen a hitch available. And it does seem ridiculous, until I saw at the last autocross I went to, a number of Corvettes with trailer hitches. Mind you, they're not pulling large loads - small trailers with a set of wheels mounted with slicks and some sundry equipment like air compressors, etc.

I need to be able to tow my Ducati, and I would absolutely LOVE to be able to go on a trip and bring my bike with me. Total weight of a trailer and bike is less than 700lbs - certainly not a problem for the car!

    Any ideas?

(trailer hitch for mountain bike and I remember that someone actually did it and Dave e-beat them up for it)
I would think that it would be the same as putting all your slicks in the back seat and loading the trunk full - a difference of direct weight versus tongue weight.

I think that AoA is just covering themselves on wear on the transmission AND cooling as most tow packages come with some sort of transmission radiator cooling and we all know that the RS6 runs hot...

Anything less than 1000 lbs is usually no big deal for most cars...there are a few hitches for C5s that can be fitted.

    No flames needed !

I bet if you look hard enough...you'll see pictures of europeans towing campers with all sorts of 'cars'....many of which have neither the hp or torque as our cars.

Every time I am in Europe I see lots of C5s towing campers, trailers etc. I was thinking the exact thing for track days, just a few hundred pounds worth of track wheels/tires, plus regular tools needed, some supplies, food and beverage. Under 1000 lb really shouldn't be an issue, especially if most of that is sitting on another axle.

Why did Dave e-beat on him for that? What's was the big deal? Wasn't he big into mtn. biking like many of us?

We as owners can do whatever we want to our cars without being bullied...can't we?

I pulled a double-wide snowmobile trailer behind my 2001 C5 4.2L from 2004 until 2011----Prolly about 1000 miles per year for 7 years.... Car had 37k miles when purchased and 240K+ when sold this April.... AND, no tranny or TC issues!... Just changed the "lifetime fluid" every 60k...

IMHO, the torque, hp and braking were up to the task. Tongue wt was an issue for my vanity... I am a bit nuerotic, so to maintain the level ride when trailering, I loaded and anchored the sleds slightly reward on the trailer yeilding a tongue wt of 30-40lbs...

Have you seen the custom hidden receiver that Chicago Performance Tuning did on an RS4? It's really clever.
