    Black optics.

Im planning to have my frontside de-chromed, i already used some tape to see if it is what i expected, and i think it looks more modern, more agressive.
So the question is: is it a diy job?
how to get the lower grill, and the ones beneath the headlights, off? i know the upper grill is connected with 4 bolds.
Maybe someone has a pic from elsa/etka which shows how they are attached.
What material are they made off? just plastic?
do i have to prime them first? if so, which prime?
colour satin black? how many layers?
Below is a pic i took after i de-chromed it with some tape....

the trim under headlight is riveted to bumper. You have to remove bumper. Its not a bad DIY, takes about 30 minutes. I forgot to do mine when it was off. i plan on it again.

    That looks badass on Mugello!

If you want to DIY, I'd also give a thumbs up to Plasti-Dip spray. I used it on some outdoor aluminum furniture, and it actually held up very well for over a year now with constant sun and rain exposure...
A nice prep and multi light coats are key, though.

One question: How on earth did you get out of your car? !

I'm generally a fan of absolutely no chrome whatsoever on a car. However, even if I "blacked out" the entire car (via repaint or car wrap), I think I'd leave the chrome bits as highlights. Certainly, the mirrors must remain untouched as they are exclusive to the RS range.

Depends on the color though - I do agree that on the blue, blacking it out looks VERY good!!

True, my grill is the second iteration, it peeled off the aluminum. So I lightly sanded the the piece and it sticks well, so far.

no kidding... i just ordered it...)
so if its well degreased, it will come off?
in that case i might consider a permanent paintjob...
i didnt know the grill is made of aluminium, i thought just plastic...

the piece is aluminum. You can just clean it and spray. The beauty of that process is, if you dont like it, peel it off. If you want it more perm, sand the alum and spray, lightly coat, and do 4 coats. I have had my grills on my V plasti dipped for 2 months, once the stuff cures, its pretty durable.

Finally got my grills dechromed with paint dip.
It is my first paintjob ever, so there are some marks, because of the tape being removed after the paintjob
i couldnt get the trim removed from the grill, it is glued and aluminium parts are bend over the black grill...
anyone ever seperated them without breaking the aluminium bits...
