    Plastic coolant pipe replacement

Anyone know of a replacement for the OEM plastic pipe in the V8 oil cooler? I found reference to an aluminum one but can't see to find a source fot it.

    Thanks,

    Erik

Carbonman, any details on the piece? Bufkin's website is blocked by my work's firewall here. The Air Force doesn't want my browsing to stray too far.

It's an aluminum piece and includes the O-rings. Once I get it I'll post pictures on this forum. For the low cost (and the PITA factor of replacing it), it's a no-brainer.

I have it still it Mark if u want mine, pay for shipping. My mechanic installed(and honestly forgot while engine was out, thus installing with cradle/engine lowered) the piece leaked. Now I am not trying to pass along a dud, the fitting is brand new, but if your engine is out the install should go easier.

I didn't know about this part when my engine was out. I am about to do a 6 speed swap. Would this be easier to replace while the engine is in and the transmission is out?

YES. Do it while it's out. As important to overall general maintenance as timing belts on these engines IMO. I had my uncle machine up a few when I replaced mine. Double O-ringed just like those that Bufkin makes and sells.

He usually has an active eBay listing for them.

That is how I purchased mine. He was very easy to deal with and he shipped immediately directly to my mechanic.

Me too. Great service and great product from Mr. Bufkin. I bought one just to have the part on deck. Like the Koni Sport shocks sitting in the corner of my office.

If some one set up an NC lathe to make, say 20000 of these out of aluminum like the Bufkin, you could probably get the cost to $5. Audi probably got these plastic POS's for a buck. I am assuming that Audi built and sold 20000 of these engines in multiple flavors including the RS6. Figure the average cost of those 20000 cars was $60000.

I would have gladly paid $60004.

    Bean counters. Gotta love 'em!
