does audi need to update 2.0 engine?

the new X1 will have a 2.0T with almost 250 hp and 260 of torque. the base A4 needs an upgrade here in the usa.
    Past- A4, TT, S4

    Present- R8 V10

The surprise is that the both the S3 and TTS use the older engine so maybe the newer EA888 isn't as suitable for higher power applications. Though the older unit is still good for up to 310ps and 425Nm if required so I'm sure Audi could up the boost to match BMW's 245ps without any trouble, though matching it's flexibility is another matter.

It isn't necessary i think...2.0 TFSI is a great engine.

Audi would need to update it's V6 engines instead. 2.8 & 3.2 FSI should retire now! If you see C7 numbers in consumption, you can see that 2.8 FSI is almost as thirsty as 3.0 TFSI which is odd. I would suggest 2.0 & 2.5 TFSI in C7 generation with 211-270hp, just below the 3.0 Also a replacement is required in A4, a detuned 2.5 would be ideal instead of the 3.2 FSI.

in the USA audi offers the A4 with the 2.0T 211 hp engine only. they deleted the 3.2 last year. nothing between the A4 2.0T and the S4. the 3.2 was a slow seller and as is a well loaded 2.0T runs just less than a base S4 here in the US. in this hugely important market i think audi needs to simply give the 2.0T version in the A4 an update to, perhaps, something less than what it makes in the TTS and S3- in other words something like 240 hp. a 48K USD car should make more power than a honda accord- which makes 190 hp and costs half of that. it is just plain silly.

Yeah, agree on that! We might actually see it at end of this year's A4/5 product update! It's just silly to see A4(A5) 2.0T with s-line and rs6 wheels with just 211hp beneath! Am very sad to say this as I own one, but the 3.2 is indeed very slow seller ww so the 2.0T needs to come on its place with slightly less power - I would say around 230hp! Am sure Audi is already working on it...

The EA888 presently used in the Golf GTI, Audi A3 and A4 develops 211 bhp and will be updated to develop 230 bhp in the same models when the Golf Mk 7 and Audi A3 Mk 3 are launched. The future Golf R, Audi S3 and TTS will use an updated version of the same EA888 engine that is expected to crank out 300 bhp. The reason that the older A3, S3 and TT models used the existing EA113 has nothing to do with technology and everything to do with cost. It developed 198 bhp. The EA888 has superior valve lift technology, a chain driven cam belt and other enhancements to deliver improved efficiency and emissions. A VW Scirocco fitted with this engine had 300 bhp and achieved a class win in the Nurnburg 24 hour race in 2008. I believe they've got more than 400 bhp in testing.

It may be that the 5-cylinder engine of the RS3 and TT-RS is used more widely to deliver increased performance where it is needed. As we've seen elsewhere on RS6, more than 700 bhp can be extracted from it.

So all I can really say is congratulations to BMW for finally catching up.

confirmed. thank god for competition. the 2.0T in the A4 needs an update. torque is ok. but it needs more horses. how about 250 audi? it can easily make 270+ in the TTS.

    .
Only the Audi version that appears in late TTs and A5s have Valvelift. All other versions (even though they have the same 211ps) do not.
Torque varies greatly between the engines. The 211ps valve lift version having 258lb/ft torque (the 180ps A5 engine having 236lb/ft), the non valvelift 211ps engine has only 207lb/ft.
