    Gt5

Ok, November 2nd here in the States marks the day we get GT5. For me, it is the greatest driving sim bar none (Forza included).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxfNb4d3bPY

Audi cars will have a showing like never before, not to mention they FINALLY ponied up (Prologue was first) and included Ferrari.

    Anyone else counting the days?

    Ben

PS To fellow mods, I put this under "lifestyle", but feel free to move it elsewhere if you thing it is a better fit to another forum.

I have not bought the PS3 yet. All the time my excuse has been the fact that the GT5 was still not out yet....I guess now that excuse is no longer good. We should have our own GT5 tournament or time attack based on on certain car and settings....it should be fun .

Time attack/time trials for different cars on selected settings sounds like a great idea! And yes, full pedals with wheel is the only way to go.

For a while I was playing Prologue like crazy. My times with various cars were pretty good (mostly in the top 30's at online ranking), especially on Eiger Nordwand. But after watching top 10's replays, I realised that they were in general just cheating kids who abuse some bug (like shortcuts), in which case GT5 should cancel your time but does not. Then I concluded my trials and began to wait for the real deal.

    One of them:

    Eat. Breathe. Drive.

Dang, even I am impressed by that list!!! Insane if true! BTW, MTM (from the looks of it) must not have ponied up the $$$.

    inF, nice lap, clean lines.

Review after tomorrow night. It has a WAY bigger footprint than the Logitec GT Pro and does not fit my old Playseat (playseat.nl) so I had to take the seat to work to weld on some bigger plates... Will have it back tomorrow and will test it then.

    Ok, a review:

1st: I was very impressed with the quality of construction. Yes, of course there is still a fair amount of plastic parts but a lot has been upgraded to metal (and not cheesy tin plating either). The metal petals and shift paddles are of great quality with a nice brushed surfacing. The real leather used on the steering wheel and shifter glove is also of a better than just fair quality and have a great feel (far better than the previous rubber coating.

2nd: quality of action mechanism feel. The feedback from the steering is outstanding. My “old” Logitech GT Pro was excellent and very lifelike, and I would say this is even better. Perhaps not double the price better, but then again, we are talking about the laws of diminishing returns here. The price IS easier to swallow when the material construction is taken into consideration. The “feel” of the manual shifter is obviously “light” but then again, is still far superior to say the feel of a 70’ Golf! The clutch pedal (yes, a working clutch!) is very realistic and slightly on the heavy side. On that note, the clutch can be cheated and still shift, but a nice effort over two pedals.

3rd: As I mentioned, I had to modify my old Playseat to fit the new G27 and I will post some pics soon of the mods. With the modifications the G27 fits great and saves me a boatload compared to going out and getting a new Playseat when I already owned a perfectly good one.

    Now the dislikes:

1st (and most important): GT5 Prologue does NOT support the shifter paddles! This was a major bummer, but I had heard this going in. I am told however it is because the G27 came out after GT5P and Phony Digital never came out with an update to get the full benefit of the G27. But I am also told that Phony Digital DID get the full integration with GT5 out on the 2nd of November.

2nd: the G27 has shift light indicators (that come on when booting up the wheel) but once again are not compatible with GT5P. But as above, it will be compatible with GT5.

3rd (and minor): there is a crap load of wires. Thank goodness I have a Playseat to where I can zip tie them all to. I can’t imagine them running all over a table and hanging everywhere. On the plus, they give you neat “channels” under the steering wheel base to route them so that is a small plus. But four wires is a bit much for a steering wheel assembly (one for the wheel, one for the shifter, one for the pedals, and one for the power!).

    Pics to follow.

    Best,

    Ben

Yes it does, just google it to sort out.

I was collecting and sticking the cables together to solve the wire issue.

    Have fun!

Hmm, I did Google it and only found the answers I already heard (namely it does not work):

    http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/G...p/m-p/43942144

    http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/G...e/m-p/46149737

These are just a few days old and it shows Logitech STILL is aware it does not work (at least on GT5P). So, my question is, can you post instructions on how to do it?

    Thanks
