Retroquattro. Is it a fact or just a rumor?

I first heard the rumor about this car in early spring.

As you all probably already also have heard it´s supposed to be a tribute to the old Quattro and the 30th anniversery of quattro.

Many are guessing it's based on the A5 plattform with a straight 5 cyl turbo longitudal mounted engine - and yes of course quattro.

The swedish magazine Auto Motor & Sport writes in an articel that they have a source in Ingolstadt confirming this and promises a 500 hp engine and a car that wheighs around 1050 kg. According to them the car will debute at the Paris Auto Show in October.

Is this true? If it is I want one. If not, who are we going to give a good beating for teasing us?

where would it fit in the A5 line schema???? kind of a random introduction. however, it could make sense if it is a clubsport or "GT" version of the RS5 where they fit the 5-cyl engine in with 400 plus hp, give it DSG, and seriously lighten the weight with the know-how of the lightweight A5 mules that have been developed and shown to the press. it would have to weigh 3100-3300 lbs to make any sense. and that means a 600 lb weight loss vs the RS5.

In another thread, Qisha told us that in the next two years, an RS product with the 5-cilinder TFSI with around 425 Ps and a weight of around 1500 Kg would appear.

    Maybe is this one...?

Yes I guess that 1500kg and 425 hp is a more likely figure. We all now just like JavierNuvolari wrote, it is a fatty. And if you chiptune a TT RS engine you easily get 420 hp so thats also not to hard to believe.

Project Anniversario is a nother name for the RETRO QUATTRO and you can find som more info searching on that name. Here are som old an old articles from 2009 where the authors speculates that the crisis in the car industri has delayed the car until 2012.

My guess is thats why they have set a maximum of 333 cars. They can charge a hell of alot of money and they know that everyone will be sold (just like the R8 GT). The good thing with a fixed number of cars and a high price is that they can start to produce it sooner.

This is the most exciting Audi news in a long time. My brother bought one of the original Quattros when they first came out and the wondrous thing about it was that no one realised how capable it was. It simply ran rings around established supercars of the period and at a price that made the competition look stupid. It was Audi''s equivalent of the Golf GTI.

So to have a modern incarnation of the Quattro, complete with in-line 5, 425 bhp in a light chassis would be superb. They have to make it. But only 333? That would be nuts. We know for sure that Audi has created a lightweight A5 platform using aluminium and carbon fibre. Hopefully it is only a matter of time before it sees the light of day.

you know what (and before i say it i know it isn't going to happen) i'd be insane over an all new quattro 5 system with some crazy thing like 4 wheel steering in a nex gen superlight aluminum/plastic composite spaceframe with a curb weight of 3000 lbs and a good old fashioned 6 or 7 speed manual gearbox (as is rumored in the 998) +/- a 7 or 8 speed DSG.

    oh.....and a twincharged 5 cylinder engine with 480 hp and a combined 32 mpg.

    ok. i'll wake up now.
