    2011 Audi A8

Seems like the old A8 - incredibly competent at everything, but doesn't lead the field in anything besides interior quality. The headlight daytime LEDs are fugly and awkward, they need to go.

Sorry, but this seems like Audi's Lexus LS460. We'll have to see about Audi's claim that it'll be the class's sportiest car to drive.

Damn... what a disappointment... awesome interior, but it ends there. So sad.

Did they put an American Designer on this one? Like BMW.

When looking at this I'm a bit disappointed, but I wan't to see it in person before I make the real judgement.

Let's just hope it's a damn good car!

    I'm thinking the same.

The V8 4.0 litre TFSI engine STILL isn't ready. What's going on?

4.0 TFSI will be introduced in S7. It was NOT planned at all for new A8.

New A8 will get some other engines. You can expect 3.0 TDI for sure as well as big new W12. Other engines will follow...

Yeah, I'm also disappointed in Audi. I thought it would be more sporty, but I really don't like the fact that the A8 has become a larger A4(B8). Also one thing I don't like are the headlights. It doesn't fit to the rest of the car.
The A8 was always a very classy and sports car in its own model range, but these headlights just make it look like a tuned car...

BUT!! I think when I see this car in person I'll still like it...

Overal, I expected more of Audi and the A8. For me it isn't really a step forward... The new 7 serie maybe is the better choice in this range (although I'm a huge A8 fan)...

Overall i think Audi will prosper with the new A8. However it neither blows me away or underwhelms me in any way. It's progression on Audi's part but still conservative and there is too much of a 'design blend' within it's its latest model offerings. Engineering/Amenity wise, there is just a slew of advancements and features to get excited about.

Did anyone get an idea of how much this beast weighs?

How did that get signed off for production?

Bet the design boffins were thinking..."let's go ahead with something a little controversial, it'll get publicity!"

Damn, it's still heavy. Is this weight in comparison with the 7 serie and S classe a good thing??

The A8 has a aluminium space frame, I wonder what would happened with the weight when they didn't use such a technology

    Yes.

    Acordingly to WCF:

The 2011 A8 weighs about the same as the outgoing model despite being 3 inches longer, 2 inches wider and has more standard equipment (8-speed auto transmission, pre sense basic, keyless go, power trunk, etc.) versus competitors: ~50lbs less than S Class RWD, and more than 200lbs (90.7kg) less than S Class AWD; more than 200lbs less than 7 Series RWD and more than 400lbs (181.4kg) less than 7 Series AWD.

    Thanks Lmg,

That information is great news for me. So, when there is a comparison test between Audi A8 quattro and BMW 7 AWD/Merc S AWD, the A8 is the king!! That's nice to see...

OK, THIS I call "Vorsprung durch Technik" !!

Wow, never thought I would agree with a statement like that!

The new A8's interior though would keep me from choosing the BMW. Our we wrong to think Audi actually had something special (looks wise) planned for this thing?
