    Laser Jammer group buy

I'm finally ready to have a laser jammer installed after 2 tickets in so many weeks. For some reason daily speed traps both to and from work (instead of the usual beginning of the month/end of the month cycle nonsense) are now the norm. I feel like I'm being stalked by snipers! This is getting WAY out of hand. They must REALLY be hurting for revenue!

I brought up some independent testing articles when I had tossed the idea around before, trying to find out which one was now the best:

    http://www.guysoflidar.com/july-2008/laser-jammer-test.html

Enter, Laser Interceptor. I contacted the distributor at LI-USA, and he personally answered all my stupid questions about mounting and such, because I don't want to have to cut the grill at all. On my wife's A4, they'll fit nicely in between the upper grill slats, next to the headlamps. RS6, not so much! I'll probably mount it similar to this M5:

    http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60-m5-e61-m5-touring-discussion/123312-laser-interceptor-installation-e60-m5-phew.html

It's rather expensive, so I asked about group buy rates, and it's about 10% less. There is no minimum order number to get the GB rate, but there is a limit of two per person, and I have to be the organizing monkey.

Anyway, be sure to check your local regs (guys of lidar site has a map to see if your state is legal). I know that in CA,VA,SC,TN,IL,MN,OK,CO,& UT they are illegal, according to:

    http://www.guysoflidar.com/usa-laser-jammer-laws.html

HI uses Laser enclusively, and it's legal, so I'm in luck (or soon will be). I suppose those living somewhere that uses both radar and laser would do well with both this and a decent radar detector in tandem. N.B. that RADAR jammers (as opposed to LASER) are illegal everywhere.

    Anyway, here's their website:

    www.Laser-InterceptorUSA.com
    www.Laser-InterceptorUK.com

LI Dual Standard: $625 (Retails $700)
LI Dual HP (High Power): $1250 (Retails $1400)

LI Quad Standard: $1075 (Retails $1225)
LI Quad HP (High Power): $2050 (Retails $2450)

I believe the quads are mainly for SUVs, etc.
The rear units can be purchased/added later for about $550 and can be mounted with their license plate bracket. That's what I'm going to do, if/when "moving laser" ever becomes operational out here.

If you are interested, PM me your e-mail address, which I'll forward to Cliff (distributor for LI-USA), who will invoice you with the special group buy rate. You then pay LI-USA, and they will ship to you immediately, since there is no need to wait for the typical "group buy quota." I'll try to answer any questions that aren't covered by the LI FAQ website, or forward them to someone who can.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'm just so fed up with this whole daily speed trap crap that I just have to do something (other than drive 55). I didn't see the Laser Interceptor on any prelim searches of this site, so I thought that I'd share. I'm going to have a good car alarm/stereo shop install it for around $200. I have neither the time nor patience to DIY, although I'm sure that you could. It'll take them 2-3 hours on a Saturday while I shuffle around Honolulu with the wife and kids. No way I can beat that! I'll post pix once I get it installed.

    Cheers!

Nice find on the tests. I purchased a Blinder M40 a while back based on a 2007 test. I searched quite a bit before purchasing it too. The tests you've shown make me wish I'd searched more!

I just recently installed the M40 in my R8 and have only had it go off once since the install. The cop took a very long duration shot at me too. Usually they just blip you and move on, but this guy tracked me for probably a quarter mile before moving on to the next victim. I'm guessing he was having issues with what he was seeing on the laser gun's readout. (:

The test you've posted appears to be very well thought out and executed. Nice data.

So as long as two buyers (you and a second person) kick this thing into gear, there will be a group buy? How long can we expect this offer to be available? I was wanting to wait a couple more months before I purchase a unit for my RS6. If it's as good as they're claiming, I'll pony up for the LI Quad. I had to go see the Judge this month because of three tickets in less than a year's time... (bad luck on my part - I KNOW where not to speed around Cincinnati, but did I pay attention to that? Of course not!)

So um, if someone in another state purchased this device and shipped it to me in CA.....

Dwd, I think it's ok to ship it to you, but don't quote me. Afterall, you'll just be using it as a parktronic device for the front, right? Our european brethren obviously couldn't use that excuse, since their's came w/front parktronic as well, I think.
Kfab, I was close to getting the blinder a couple years ago, too, but never got around to it. I've been getting by on just my God-given senses to find the bears and slow down, but like I said, that's just not good enough any more due to the density and frequency. I'm using to much brain power on this task!
As far as how long the gb will last, I wasn't given a termination date. Most other gb I've seen last a month or so. I'd have to check. I've already got some colleagues who will probably be in as well, and I'll be getting another for the wife's car. Sorry to hear about the tix! I can certainly empathize!

Also, this system software can be updated as new lidar guns come out with a laptop and a USB. The jamming emitter heads themselves are already state-of-the-art, using the same diodes found in the lidar guns themselves, not LEDs. From what I've read, LEDs are cheaper but far less effective. I figured that I only want to do this once, so this seems like the best solution by far.
I like the front parktronic feature, too, so I can tuck in the front end in the parking garage without "parking by braille" and makes it easier to justify with the wife!

I missed the parktronic feature. (maybe because I didn't go to the unit's web site???)

I wouldn't mind having that feature in the front end of the RS6. I like it in the R8.

I do believe that's probably enough reason to go ahead and snag a unit next month. (:

    Some corrections to above:
Also, this system software can be updated as new lidar guns come out with a laptop and a USB.

Not true. The RS232 only allows the user to change the User Settings such as the duration of the Parking Aid, etc. When new LIDAR are deployed, the user goes to our Website and may purchase an upgraded CPU for $50.00 including shipping and a SASE for the return of the old CPU. Simply swap the CPUs out and your ready to JAM any new LIDAR that may be deployed. The reason for no user capability is that our Algo's are Encrypted. If we did not take this security step, the LI would be knocked off by the Chinese.

I like the front parktronic feature

The Parking Aid feature is NOT very accurate and as such, should not be relied upon like Parktronic. It is simply there to allow users in areas where LCM are Illegal, like The EU, Canada, to demonstrate the LI as a PA and for us to sell it as a Parking Aid to overcome these Laws.

The GB is good for as long as the thread is allowed.

Yes, we do ship to California.

*****Cliff (distributor) is monitoring the thread and emailed me the corrections above.*****

nice!! Will have to give it some serious thoughts. One quick q: is it recommended/advised to get the rear detector version?

    DWD,
I guess it depends on the traps in your area. Here, everybody I've seen gets tagged from the front. I've seen some cops then just turn around and shoot someone as they went by from the rear. Maybe he couldn't get a reading from the front for whatever reason, and wasn't giving up?

I don't plan on doing a Cannonball Run or whatever, so when I see a cop I slow down. Why piss on a beehive? A few cops in west TX/NM (when I lived there) would wait on the opposite side of an overpass and ping you from behind from the on-ramp (classic dick move, but extremely effective). That was out in the middle of nowhere, so there was really no other place to hide. They had mustangs or camaros with the one modification that would let them reel in an RS6 with ease-the big blue light bar on top. Rear protection would be mandatory for me in that case!

You can always get the rear detectors/jammers later, mount them to your license plate, route the cables back to whereever you mounted the control box, and plug them in. That's my plan for now. When "moving laser" starts getting used around here, I'll get the rears, or if I see them get more creative. Right now, the shooter has to lase you from a stationary position, so it's usually motorcycle cops here since it's so easy to collect tickets riding up and down the highway. Plus, there's no "typical" locations. How hard is it to find a space to park a bike? Spotting a motorcycle in the weeds is pretty hard, and next to impossible at night since they kill all their lights (here anyway).

I guess it's up to you.

Package just arrived last night. Much more compact and unobtrusive than I had imagined (even knowing the measurements). Just double checking the best place to mount it. Can't wait!

Already getting a rear mounted (too late - see below) to go with my K40 Caliber (oft maligned but so far works well for me) so none needed at this time but for anyone considering one I'll say this:

    1. Recently got a ticket because he lasered me from behind - never knew what hit me. Luckily I had slowed to 80 when he hit me.

    2. Two days ago local gendarmes lasered me from the front. My understanding is it only takes a fraction of a second and your nailed. I saw him ahead of time and was already at the limit anyway but I started giggling when the laser detector went off and stayed on alert for maybe 5 seconds. I could just picture him looking at the screen wondering what was wrong with his new toy.

Nothing was wrong with his gun. See why here:

    Older K40 Defuser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fwJCRDk2Ik&feature=related
    Newer K40 EX Defuser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QcviEfVVv4&feature=related
    New K40 EX Defuser: http://www.youtube.com/user/guysofradar

Here one of many tests I've seen with the Laser Interceptor:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQfPyoaSkfQ&NR=1

When you got hit from behind, how did you know it wasn't from the front? Did he tell you, or did you see him tracking you in your rear view mirror from behind an obstacle? Either way, sux about the ticket! Luckily you're in TX, where 80mph in sometimes the speed limit! That saved me from getting an "excessive speeding" ticket manys-a-time! Here, in contradistinction, >30mph over the PSL (or >80mph ANYWHERE on the island) will get you an "excessive speeding" ticket: $500, court appearance required, and special forms to sent to your insurance company who will assuredly jack up your rates or just drop you. Definately ruin your day!

Help me interpret what the videos showed. Are you saying that the K40 worked for a while but the Interceptor worked all the way down to 70ft? I wasn't saying anything was wrong with the gun, just assumed since he was lasing me for so long the K40 was doing it's job, even if not as well as the Interceptor. If it works for a few seconds and gives me an alert, I'm okay with that (i.e. not worth changing).

I think he got me from behind because I never got an alert and I'm pretty good at spotting them visually whether I get an alert or not. I think he saw me go through the toll booth just a tad hot and tagged me since they don't have moving laser do they? I saw him sitting at the toll station but wasn't shooting laser when I passed him. He came from behind and ticket said laser.

Not sure if it's state-wide or not but this ticket said anything 25 over PSL would not allow me to have taken defensive driving to keep it off the records.

The K40 VIDS demonstrate two concerns here:

    1) The latest K40 EX will ONLY JAM LIDAR if the LEO shoots directly at the Sensor. Target the headlights, as seen in the VIDs, and instant PT (Punch-Through) is achieved. The older K40 DEFUSER will not JAM at all!

    2) Law Enforcement is becoming acutely aware of the existence of LCM (Laser Counter-Measures) on vehicles and are changing their targeting tactics in two important ways. One, they are no longer shooting at distances of 1000 ft or more but rather, in an attempt to defeat poor performing LCM, are now targeting "ambush style", namely, under 500 feet and as few as 200-300 ft, in an attempt to defeat LCM and secondly, they are now doing more and more rear LIDAR enforcement as most vehicles equipped with LCM are unprotected in the rear. Also keep in mind that the rear of most vehicles are 3-5 times more reflective then the front making the LIDAR more efficient at achieving a PT and requiring the same if not more protection than the front with those LCM that perform poorly overall.

All in all what this means is that you not only need a LCM that can JAM no matter where on the vehicle a LEO may target (roofline, license plate, headlight or mirror) but that one also needs a LCM that will provide JTG (Jam To Gun) performance to address the "Ambush" style LIDAR trap. Rear Jammers are also suggested. I think I may also just go ahead and get the rear as well because of this.

Anybody have any ideas on where is the best place to mount the little toggle switch? Side of center console is most likely. I want to get some ideas/opinions before I go drilling...

Thanks! I may go with that! So can view this through the inner part of the steering wheel while your're driving (7-8 o'clock position)? There's a little patch of unobscured virgin territory there that looks promising.
