    RS6 Top Gear Australia Review

The reporter is an annoying ********* but the car is very impressive.Unfortunately there is no footage of the RS6 running around the Top Gear test track but it posted a very impressive time. The highly annoying reporters & crowd were stunned at just how fast it ran around the track,it was in the same league as the Porsche 911 C2s PDK. Very impressive.

First clip I've seen from Australian Top Gear. I'd say it's ok. Not even close to the UK version, but still good enough to watch.

For the car. Well, australia didn't have much to come up with.

    Nice test drive.

Is the US Top Gear still coming? Heard a lot about it last year, then nothing. Though nothing could hold a candle to the original.

Very true, the UK has a supercharged version of the sedan & the car does 0-100 in 4.2 sec...I would still take the RS6.

Why would u need US Top Gear when u have Jay Leno’s Garage? Very cool show. There was once a show on ESPN called “Motorvision” that was better than Top Gear & 5th gear combined...I don’t know happened 2 that show.

I don't need it, I have BBC, but there was a TG show planned here called Sixth Gear...

The BBC was looking to export Top Gear to the United States. NBC announced, in January 2008, that it had ordered a pilot for an American version of the show, retitled Sixth Gear. BBC Worldwide has been contracted to produce the pilot for NBC. According to NBC reality chief Craig Plestis, many automakers have already shown interest in America's version of Top Gear.

Jay Leno, who originally turned down offers to host the show, expressed concern over whether or not a show like Top Gear could be successful in America. In a column published by The Sunday Times, Leno expresses concern that an American version could lack the critical reviews the British version is known for. The British show is produced for the BBC with public funds while the American show will air on commercial television. Leno believes that the show may have to worry about offending current and potential sponsors by giving their products poor reviews, leading to a compromise in the journalistic integrity and freedom of the original show.

On June 16, 2008, NBC and BBC officially announced an American version of Top Gear. On June 19, 2008, Adam Carolla mentioned on his radio talk show that NBC would be allowing the hosts of Top Gear to praise and criticize cars as they saw fit. The studio segments for the pilot were taped on July 26, 2008 to generally favorable reviews citing close following of the UK version's format. NBC was expected to have Top Gear premiere as a mid-season replacement in 2009.

On December 11, 2008, it was revealed that NBC passed on the show, but allowed the BBC to shop it around for cable networks to possibly pick it up. However, in February 2009 Jeremy Clarkson stated that the American version had been "canned", claiming that focus groups "... just don't understand a single word we're on about. They just don't get it really."

Along with the official announcement of Top Gear was the announcement of the hosts of the show; Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust, and Eric Stromer. Internet personality Alex Albrecht was previously approached to host, but was not approved by the network.
