I would agree that Amsoil is definitley better than Amsoil, but in N.A. I think a slightly better choice for the same price is Redline. Check the posted specs out there and Redline scores the highest on HTHS (High Temp High Sheer) of any oil that tests to the Euro spec. Mobil 1 in 1W-40 & 15w-50 barely meet the Audi/Vw spec and the rest of the Mobil 1 oils don't even meet the spec.
Please don't think that because a dealer uses and oil that it must be the best or even all that good. Please check what the dealer you use in N.A. use as they are able to purchase their oils independant of Audi/VW. The oils they use should meet the Audi/VW specs but many have been caught going cheap. The oils they use many times are purchased depending on costs, long term agreements, and such, never based on the best available. Call three dealers and you will probably find three different oils. The oil being used must meet Audi/VW 505.1 as a minimum, not all synthetic oils are the same, and most don't meet the specs, our brethren in Europe have tighter tolerances on their oil standards than SAE. That doesn't mean they have better oil, it does mean that some of their tests are more stringent than SAE minimums and many N.A. oils don't do better than the mins., but some are world leaders.

Has something to do with the 505.01 synthetics use an additive that has some ingredient that helps lube the upper cylinders.. its not in most other oils..

I'm using Motul Specific 505 01 as it is on the approved list, I would use the Amsoil euro, but I'm still CPO and don't want to take any chances in the event of an issue.

I use Castrol but I may switch to Amsoil due to test ratings. Amsoil is also known to have the best oil filters in the world.
