Already since 2004 there are speculations about an RS3. I guess that if the TT-RS-engine fits in the A3 it would be a logical thing to do (because of the development costs of the engine)
btw, didn't Qisha say something like "if they would make an RS-3 it would be worthwhile giving it the S-Tronic gearbox"?

BUT the matter is, the TTRS quote is limited and the only Audi model to share the cost for re-enginering would be the A3. Since there is no need for a even more solid S-tronic within the A3 range, the cost of development is down to the TTRS only-, hard to justify. It is not for certain that the TT successor will keep the transversal layout...

As long as a possible RS3- and/or a demand within the VW model range will be cleared for joint venture, manual only... it was a hard time pushing the TTRS through.

By the way, drive that little car, let the emotions work and i guess you might forget a need for S-tronic.

The S3 is already the most expensive hothatch arround, where will they place the RS3 pricewise? Near the M3?

there is no way an RS3 is goign to be released as we know the new A3 will be coming out in 2010-2011.... its already too late... if there is a RS3 it will be in the nextA3 generation.

    Bring the RS3

Here’s a happy rumour heading out of Audi HQ for you: those wild-haired boffins from Ingolstadt are considering dropping the new 340bhp engine from the TT RS into the A3 hatchback to create… the RS3. Oh yes.

(We've hastily bodged together a photo to illustrate, as you can see...)

Speaking with a Dutch website, Audi development boss Michael Dick said this week that they were ‘seriously considering’ fitting the 2.5-litre turbo petrol engine under the bonnet of the A3.

Just consider that for a second. A four-wheel drive mega hot hatch – putting out 40bhp more than the Ford Focus RS – to take the fight to the Imprezas and Evos with a sub-five second 0-60mph time and buckets of understated Q-car cool. Oh yes again.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Audi could detune the engine a little to keep the RS3 out the way of the TT RS. Or not build it at all (financial downturn blah blah ad infinitum). But they don’t want to do that, do they?

For now, let’s just bask in the happy thought of an RS3. Want one? Or will you take a Focus RS instead?

If RS 3 comes out, it will be the best hot hatch since Golf II GTI G60 or Golf III VR6...

I would really love to see it!

I thought the Impreza WRX was most expensive by far.

Price? I assume close to 55ke in Western Europe. Who wants to buy a 5 cylinder for 55ke? Just wait a couple of years and you can get a 30-40000km Rs6 for that price....

RacerBice, you thought wrong, at least in my country you did. The new Impreza WRX is cheaper here than the Audi S3 with a few options, so the RS3 would be sky high expensive compared to it

Here the S3 costs EUR 48.960 and the WRX STI EUR 57.995

Let's say they could make the RS3 perform as good or a bit better then the STI it should cost more then an STI seeing it's a much nicer car.

Compare it to a 135i coupe that costs EUR 55.930 here.

If they could get it in at around EUR 62.000 ...

ok, i changed my mind - on ams-online appeared an article about the RS3:
    http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/n...n-1092399.html

so audi will build an A3 with a price tag of an A8 lol - and i will love it!
and ams writes that with end of may the 3.2 runs out.
