    Pictures Champagne tasting - Krug 1966 - 1998 + Grand Cuvée

I had my first Champagne testing this weekend, I guess the start could have been worse.

    This is the line up

    Krug 1966
    Krug 1979
    Krug 1985
    Krug 1988
    Krug 1989
    Krug 1990
    Krug 1995
    Krug 1996
    Krug 1998
    Krug Grand Cuvee (bought 1996)
    Krug Grand Cuvee

As jokers we had Krug Rosè and Krug Privat Cuvée (bought in the 50s.)

    We were 8 people.

    Winter has arrived to Stockholm.

HUGE difference between the old GC and the new. The older it gets, the better.

Here are just a few short comments. I'm no expert, but we had a sommelrier present who took notes that I can e-mail if you like?
    Just send me a pm.

Btw, I'm coming to Denmark in about 2-3 weeks, have you got any recommended places to shop?

    Krug 1966
    My favourite together with 1988.

    Krug 1979
    Most people's favourite.

    Krug 1985
A large disapointment. This one still has a lot of acid.

    Krug 1988
My favourite together with the -66, and also the bottle I brought.

    Krug 1989
Perhaps this one died on me, or vs. the others it was just not near.

    Krug 1990
    Very good

    Krug 1995
Sorry, can't remember. So mid probably.

    Krug 1996
I have read so much about it and expectations very ultra-high, so drinking it was a bit of a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, this is probably one of the best around, but to open a bottle today is disgrace. I will probably wait at least 10 years before drinking. Another 15-20 years probably won't do any harm.

    Krug 1998
Most people's disappointment. Some people actually wanted to return their bottles, if they could

    Krug Grand Cuvee (bought 1996)
Wow! The color was much darker/richer than the modern one. And this wine really opened up with time.

    Krug Grand Cuvee
Compared with the older GC, this was no near as good.
The idea came to me to buy a case or two now and then

    Hi Erik,

I really like to recieve the notes from the sommerlier, thanks.

If you go shopping in Cph, there's a lot of opportunities.... but what shall you shop?

There will actually be a big auction (with alot of Krug etc.) at Brunn Rasmussen the 3rd of december.... http://www.bruun-rasmussen.dk/search.do?cid=2838

There's also a great site here in Denmark with private auctions, great stuff can be found there http://www.vinforum.dk/cgi-local/auction.cgi from time to time.

    All the best!

    Hi Claus and thanks,

Well I'd like to shop either for (rare) Champagne, but not at crazy prices, or
high quality wine that's priced better than here.
There is also a rum which is the BEST I've ever tasted, from Nicaragua I think, but I can only find it in Denmark.

I bought 2 Dom Perignon 1996 in Copenhagen. They were expensive, but very rare so when I found them I had to. Got one left to keep

As you may know the swedish Systembolaget actually have pretty good prices on Champagne and high priced wine, but sometimes limited qty.
They don't care about the label / marketing, and just add the normal tax for wine.

    Thanks for the links.

Tonight, it was time for this one.

Amazing how a 32 year old product can still be so fresh and vital! Perfect mousse.
Expert Richra Juhlin says 94/94 points. I call 93 point maximum.
