    GruppeM "RAM AIR SYSTEM" RS4.

We developed the special carbon duct case for RS4(B7). RAM AIR SYSTEM used maximum space of RS4(B7) engine room.
RAM AIR SYSTEM can stop heat temperature inside engine room and can leads cool fresh air from front section. RAM AIR SYSTEM can make more torque and maximum power from middle range rpm to high range rpm than stock intake and you can feel better accelerate and aggressive intake sound. RAM AIR SYSTEM kit is all bolt on kit, so you do not need any modify on your car. All staff included into the kit.

I wonder if it actually makes more power or even less. Champion Motorsport used the stock airbox for their race car that made over 500hp.

What about the air flow meter?

Please show your track results. My guess is that trap speeds do not change, which signifies that no real world difference was noted.

    Hi Jarod,
A few questions if I may:
Is this available now and where can we order them from? Cost?
Will this mean also more fuel consumption? How long has this been in R&D prior to release?
    Thanks.

Ram air is BS. You cannot create boost just by sticking your intake in the airstream. The air just takes the path of least resistance, which is around the intake.

If it was that simple, all cars would have huge trompet intakes.

Air speed as well doesn't increase you intake capacity. This has to do with air mass fluctuation and turbulance. Cars are fitted with variable intakes to actually slow down the air, to get more air into the cilinder.

There's a reason why you never see any proper race cars with those hot rod hood scoops. Race teams are actually more likely to close up standard "speed holes" for aerodynamic effeciency.
And most race cars use the factory air box, b/c the engineers didn't put it there at random.

And you want to avoid putting your intake near the hot radiator, which is exactly what they have done here.

    They have not.
This GruppeM R.A.S use the same air inlet as the OEM airbox do.
Only the flow of the system is better.

    Jarod.

btw, the OEM airbox is also a sound silencer, The GruppeM is a open system for more intake sound.

Now that I think about it I'm almost sure this is going to hurt performance.

The stock airbox has a total of 3 intakes for air in it while this one only has the one from the top of the grill.

How could that possibly flow more air, it just doesnt add up.

    This is from Wikipedia:
"The short ram air intake is a form of aftermarket air intake for automobiles with internal combustion engines. It basically replaces the OEM air intake with a short metal pipe and air filter inside the engine bay. This can slightly boost performance levels in a vehicle by increasing air volume intake. A significant increase in intake air volume will only occur in an engine where the factory intake piping was restrictive.

"Additional problems can result from using a short ram intake in cars utilizing a Mass airflow sensor. Turbulence in the intake airflow produced by the filter or piping, or a change in intake diameter at the point where the airflow is measured can produce inaccurate airflow readings. The error in airflow then translates to an error in the amount of added fuel. In the worst case, the air/fuel ratio can run lean, causing detonation and possibly engine failure"

I'm open-minded for any new "development" but have to say I am rather skeptical at this point in time unless there are more data to prove its worthiness and value for money. $1535AUD for an air filter is a bit steep too.

Thanks for letting us know the new product though.

If it isnt broken, then dont fix it....

Audi spent how many millions in testing, research, more testing etc etc,... i dont think they just stuck an air box at random under the bonnet of their flagship saloon.... but if some people think they can get better performance than Audi by throwing on an add on part such as an airbox then so be it, each to thier own. But i really dont see the point.. your hardly going to notice the difference of 7.2 ps, ( about 5hp)

Is it a proper 'RAM' kit, like the one some motorbikes have that compress the air at speed, or is it just a pimped out air filter box? The latter has never impressed me.

The only entrance are the four slots you can see.

Then the case with this is it will hurt performance. The stock airbox has 2 additional inlets to let air in, this just cant flow as much air, its not possible.
