    Gearbox Question.

Is the manual 6 speed gearbox of the A5 3.2 Quattro the same as the manual 6 speed gearbox of the S5. ?
Futher have the Gearbox/Engine mounting shape change a lot in comparison to, lets say the old inline 5, early V6 and V8 engines.
With other words can a new engine be mounted to a old gearbox and visa versa, a old engine to a new gearbox.

    Jarod.

    No.

    V6s run 0B2 type transmission
    V8s run 0B4 type transmission

Similar in design, but certainly not directly interchangable.

The obvious change in the later/earlier gearbox is the position of where the front driveshafts bolt to the latest type boxes. They are now a good few inches closer
to the bellhousing face to allow the engine to sit further back into the chassis than they used to.

All 'proper' quattro gearboxes have all shared the same basic design (as does the 911 - but other way around) since the Ur quattro of 1980.
Whether they are interchangable all depends on how much modifying you want to do - nothing is impossible.

Ok, but bolding on a inline 5 turbo to the latest B8 gearbox will be a problem. ?

    In what vehicle?
Are you making an A4/A5 5 cylinder?
or bolting a newer gearbox into an older car?
or is this some other non production application?

The current 0B2/4 transmissions run off an intermediate plate that is driven of the back of the engine that drives all the cars ancilleries (alternator, p.a.s pump etc).

Be prepared to make a whole new set of custom mounts for engine and trans. Especially if the box replaces an older Audi version.

As said, I'm sure there are ways and means of getting any box and engine to fit together. It all depends on how much modifications you are prepared to make.

I have this idea of putting a inline 5 turbo into a A5 3.2 Quattro body.
    The only change will be the engine's, 265 hp V6 out ± 315-600 HP RS2 R5T in.
But it's just a idea at the moment, all depends on if it is possible to bold on the inline 5 turbo to the new A5 gearbox without major changes.
