Hmm... That rear end looks (in profile) as a 996 with a wing.

Those were some glorious pictures of the M3!

I'm starting to somewhat appreciate the styling of the new 5 series. I especially like the front: it looks appropriately aggressive to me. The dashboard also seems more successful than that of the 7 series.

Still, there are some design elements that look rather strange to me, but I would like to see the car in person before forming a judgement.

Lastly, a note on the Z4: the design strikes me as very deliberate, yet only a very simple cut-out lets the exhaust pipes through (compare for example with, say, the current-generation A4).

Somehow, it seems out of place on that car, like it is its Achilles' heel, the spot that Bangle forgot

Anyone else that's bothered by it?

I spotted the new 5-series today on the highway. (530i)
It look much better in reality than in pictures.

    Erik,

Would you happen to know if the E60 is available to the general public in Sweden already (rather than some media test-driver or BMW official driving the car you saw)?

    Thanks,

    Aragorn

    Aragorn,

It's not open to the great wide public yet, but it's very very close. I'd guess a special test drive. They can be seen 'here and there' but it's definetly not common yet.

I see. Thanks for the info, Erik.

Maybe I'll catch a glimpse of one on my 500 km/310 mile drive tomorrow. If nothing else, I might just have to drag myself to a BMW dealership when I get back from the cabin.

Hmmm... if I find myself having too much spare time (I do have something I need to work on; I can't just relax all the time), I might write an article of sorts on what I see as the current trends in car design... we'll see.

    Regards,

    Aragorn

Today I was styding the new 5-series, what a beautiful car, much better looking in reality than on pictures. I want one...

I went to the official presentation of the 5 at my local dealer last week. I had to admit that it looks a lot better IRL but still I'm not very convinced.

lets start with a good point.... the round multimedia button in the middle works very fine and logic. bit learning but quite good.

I found that its looks pretty big on the outside but that it isn't a spacewonder on the inside (less room than an A6 for sure)

But the main criticism I had was about the built quality and used materials on the inside.
The leather is of a (to me) poor quality (typical bmw-leather),
the buttons for the airco and so on were lose....also the fabric in the trunk is unlike an A6. A very thin, hard fabric

Ok these maybe details... but still....

As for the manual versions... When you trie to find a good drivingposition and you are putting your seat good for the gas and the brake... you'll find that you wont be able to press the clutch -> its so deep!!

So I wasn't very convinced by the car ( noĻ*WOW*)

But still it'll be a very good competetor to his other rivals.

    greetss

    Steve
