great write up. the nissan is remarkable it seems. hell of a car. sounds like the only thing it lacks is the luxury feel. the R8 needs that V10. just two weeks before we see it from what i've heard.
oh. and the 2009 997TT is about to get 520 hp too.

I understand from a pure automotive enthusiast perspective in comparing the two and the GT-R is amazing in terms of speed, but honestly these two vehicles compete in very different segments and are very different from one another. It doesn't make much sense. One is a rice mobile for those with a little higher status to afford something better than an Evo, and the other is from a prestigous legendary marquee developed for sports car affciendos. This is like comparing Timex to Rolex using a cliche pun. Both keep time, but one (the R8) is a true jewel. Just because the GT-R goes faster is meaningless when compared to a vehicle like the Audi R8. Frankly, I do not understand the comparison between the two. I do not see the R8 being cross-shopped with a Nissan of all things. As for Audi not having a soul, the author is an idiot!!Just check the passion Audi elicits from its enthusiasts among so many dedicated Audi websites, clubs, etc worldwide.
The GT-R starts at 55,000 Pounds which is around $ 113,000 (Although, in the US they say $70,000) Still, get Serious! At $113,000 that is R8 starting price terrritory. No contest! I'll put the R8 in my garage anytime and anyday over that.

I totally agree that the looks of the GTR isn't anything to write home about but the actual technology that is under it's skin is truly amazing. I agree with Audiphile that the chances of these two cars sharing the same customers is highly unlikely.
It's the equivalent to someone considering a Noble or TVR instead of a Gallardo or F430, the Noble or TVR may be as quicker or even quicker but that is where the similarity ends.

I have to admit, i did not even budge when i heard that the GTR was going to hone in on the Turbo. I laughed. Now that the car has been revealed i applaud Nissan's engineering team (not the design team lol). They have created an engineering masterpiece that poses a threat to both Germany and Italy.
However the Audi does win by a nudge. I am glad to see that even with Nissans speed, edginess, etc... Audi came out in top because it masters what it was suited to accomplish and goes beyond that.
However, these are two very different cars. I suppose the only reason for comparison was because they are the two top cars in their class and there is only 1 trophy.

Full marks to the Audi. I'm a little disappointed that the GTR isn't more tactile.

Has this not being the case with all previous GTRs, nothing wrong with that it's just the way Japanese prefer to have their cars drive.

You're surely correct on that sir, if only the local pawn shop was selling one, a Rembrandt that is.
