    My custom Phaeton grills...

About a year ago I picked up a one-off mesh grill from ebay. It was OK but didn't really hit the spot so I'll go back to the stock 2004 grill with 3 double slats or crossbars in chrome with a chrome surround.

My next and current project involves experimenting with a lower grill, under the bumper. Stock is just a bare opening with a body color bar running across. I am presenting here a design that brings the character lines from the hood and upper grill down through the bumper space to the area below. The effect is similar to the 2005 Audi A8 but with the VW trapezoidal lines as opposed to the more square Audi.

The silver grill shell is from a 2006 Passat.

I carefully cut it from a full Passat bumper cover and proceeded to file and sculpt it to fit.

Sorry for the blurry photo. More to come after painting it and fitting the original upper Phaeton grill and the Passat lower grill into the new shell.

Thanks you Andy. I'm a little astonished it looks as good as it does, if I do say so myself.

I personally favour the look before paint... the current one does look good, too.

    Re: badgeless grill

Wow - $700.00 and it's black! I'll pass. Mine cost $250.00 and a lot of hours of fussin with it. But it's unique.

    I think I'll keep it.
