I'm also puzzled! 5.9 to 100kph is the figure for the bog standard car. Does this mean the extra cost has no payback in terms of acceleration, or is it a typo?

    i would predict it's a typo. 300hp + 550nm = <5.9s 0-60

    It's no typo.
Several tests have shown a factory 3.0 TDI to spend 6.6 sec 0-100 kph.

    Talk about chipping...
A member of finnish Bimmer Forum has a tuned 335da touring (Wetterauer 340 hp/ 660 Nm):
    0-402 m: 12.9-13.2/172-177kph.
    0-100 kph 4.9-5.1 sec.
Those are a range of several pulls.

I think A5 really needs THE twin turbo. (and an auto box)

Not wanting to play down the BMW 335d and it's tuning potential but give the A5 a similar amount of power and torque it will achieve better figures. At amount of torque is causing the rwd chassis mighty problem to put to the surface, something the quattro Audi will do with ease.
Search and you will find the truth.

    That's what I'm talking about!
An A5 with a twin turbo TDI would be fabulous added with an auto box, that will work just like the new on BMW.
I've tested both 335 i and d, the new 6-speed auto box is fabulous. It keeps the gear when accelerating...until you floor it for real. The torque speaks.
4WD helps, when the torque is overwhelming, ofcourse.
