    RS4 vs Evo9

Had a little race last night with my buddy in his Evo9, rated at around 350HP. Weight in the 1500kg region. He kicked my ass twice from zero to 180-200 km/h or so. Had about 1-2 car lengths on me at the end of the road and I felt I was starting to slowly gain on him. Weight is a real killer and a tuned Evo is sooo quick so watch out. Granted, these were my two first launches with the RS4. For the first one, I dumped the clutch at around 7K rpm and it slipped a lot so I lost time. The second launch was from around 4K rpm and I believe that was a bit low.

Anyway, here are the two vids:

    Evo vs. RS4 1
    Evo vs. RS4 2

    And some pics:

That looks exactly like my Evo. I'm still stock, gathering ideas, what I wan't to do with it.

But RS4 is still much-much better car, although it's not that tuneable as turbocars.

The Evo on the pic is actually stock - the one thats modded is exactly the same apart from the wheels (stock silver stars).

Smoking! No really! I had a hard braking moment last night and they were smoking, yet there was no fade, no weakened braking whatsoever. Simply fantastic.

    Fun to watch!
Those EVOs are damn quick with a few mods. But over all, the RS4 is a killer!

The specc of your RS4 is so nice, looks so sweet!

EDIT: Nice to hear about the ceramics!

Yeah they are. Reminds me of that NSX smoking the M6 - 280HP vs 507HP. Was in shock.

Now I want a Donkervoort D8 as my fun car. Those weigh next to nothing.

Thanks for the kudos to my spec - love it myself. Though I love the red leather inside the new one in the fresh topic - envy is eating me alive.

    Mori,

The problem between the RS4 and an EVO is the very one you high-lighted, the clutch. In an EVO the clutch is design for group N rallying where as the RS4 is not, so while the EVO can dump the clutch at maximum revs with no trouble and a killer launch off the line the RS4 will just slip the clutch and well you know the rest.

In the long run you will get the better of the EVO and if you took a leaf out of M5.board.com's book and tried a rolling start I think you will be surprised by the result.

I'll definately suggest a rolling start, but this guys Evo is really fast. I think he has modded gear ratios too because his gearbox is really short. I was just shifting into 4th when he was already closing up on 5th.

Am I hearing the rev limiter on the second clip? That could have cost you some time too. Did you made sure to disable ASR? Because from the vid it looks like the second is not giving you all it has. It would also explain why you felt like 4000rpm was to low.

But for your first two runs these were pretty good.

Yes ASR and ESP were off in both clips. Sport mode on on the 2nd run only. I actually hit the limiter on 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. Was a little nervous I guess.

If memory serves my right, the EVO only does 120~125mph in 5th gear so this would be about right as sure the RS4 does about 106mph in 3rd, so you would only just be into 4th gear by the time he would be changing into 6th. Or have I misread your statement.

Another to remember is a tuned EVO will have as much torque as you so it's never going to be an easy fight, now is it.

Yes, Evo makes much more sense for pure speed, track days and the like. RS 4 is a much better overall refined car.

I was sure he was going to be faster on the 400-500m distance - its just so much lighter, and weigh kills acceleration. Going to have a run with that stock EVO as well next time just to get a feel for the difference.

Leadfoot: yep that sounds pretty much what I remember from the run.
