Reliability of the cars you've owned

A little writeup after getting inspiration from the other thread on here.

    1997 Audi A4 1.8Tq Avant:
    - 313,000km without any major mechanical problems - just stuff that gets used up
    - still on the original turbo, still pumping 0.6 bar

    1999 Mercedes ML430:
    - 400m: new gearbox (yes, after 400 metres from leaving the stealership!)
    - various major mechanical fixes
    - total engine rebuild at 120,000km
    - the invoices for all the repairs were over €30,000

    2000 BMW 330d sedan:
    - many small problems
    - turbo failed at 75,000km

    2001 BMW X5 4.6IS:
    - 220,000km: new gearbox (supposedly expected lifetime)
    - many few minor glitches such as rusting foglamp cables, etc.
    - AC failed 6 times or so
    - basically can't go two weeks without a visit to the shop

    2001 Audi S3:
    - no problems, current mileage: 41.000km

    2004 BMW 530dT:
    - parking sensors still not working
    - bluetooth not working since the car was purchased
    - few minor electronic problems
    - current mileage around 80,000km

    2006 911 4S:
    - no problems, 32,000km

    2007 RS4 Avant:
    - 10,000km and no problems so far

VAG seems a little bit more reliable as you can see.

    Hi,

My list isn't really as long as yours, ..

    2000 VW Golf 1,9 TDI
    - 315.000 km with no major technical problems - even the clutch is the original one.
Only wearout - parts (as tire bearings, brake pads, ...) but no real big thing so far.

well and I do hope, it's going to make a few more kms in my hands with no bigger problems -> well .. so far -> i also can't say anything against VAG reliability.

Yeah the beemers in my list are a total mistake. Just wish more people replied as there seem to be a nice list of cars on the forum.

This is only a list of cars that I have had problems with, not the total cars owned.

Vauxhall Nova SR (engine blow) replacement head/pistons

Ford Fiesta XR2i (EPU problems) never fixed

BMW 328Ci (Tyres replaced due to width of tyres to great causing wondering over the road) Dealer replaced as BMW wouldn't.

Audi TT 225 (wastegate valve) replaced during service

    BMW 530i (ABS fault x 2)
    BMW 535i (ABS fault x 2 + Park sensor) Brother's car

Audi S4 (Broken water pipe) Occurred at winter

The only dealers which offered loan cars were the Audi dealer even though the TT was a Contract car. BMW dealer wouldn't offer as both cars were imports.
Search and you will find the truth.

VW Golf III 1.4 (60 BHP)
98k Km no problems except the ones caused by me driving into things of all kind

    Rover 100 1.1 (46 BHP)
68k km Minor problems with electrical equipment but overall satisfactory

    Alfa 159 Sportwagon 2.0 Slelspeed (150BHP)
50k km Sold out of desperation
    Repalced the gearbox 2 times
Replaced the electronic units of the gearbox 3 times
Electrical failures of all kinds (some as early as 10 after I picked it up new)
Malfunctioning of the vehicle since the first week till the last one
I had it for 2 years but it spent 8 months in the repairshop (no accident)
    DO NOT BUY ALFAS....

    Audi A4 2.5 TDI Quattro (180 BHP)
130k km and still running fine!
Excellent car! Minor problems but nothing worth mentioning except the control unit of the xenon lights (alignment system)

    B7 RS4 (420 BHP)
    36k km
Minor issues fixed during regular check at no extra cost. Replaced the front disks under warranty.

    These are my cars...

If i look into my family the situation is pretty much the same. We had loads of audis of all kinds (A8, A6, S6, S4, A4, A100, A80, Audi Coupe) and always happy about them...
Cuple BMW and they were good as well (320, X3).
Alfas and they were as bad as mine!
Some Lancia in the old days and they were OK... nothing exciting!

Audi has it all for me GO QUATTRO GO!!!
