How did this guy leave a deposit and get nothing in writing !!

When a deposit is left for purchasing a car it does not go to Audi. It stays with the dealer.
Nothing can really be done as far as ordering a car, until Audi open the ordering system (which in the case of the R8 was only just recently in the U.S, I believe). Its then ythe dealer is told of their allocation of cars (not counting the ones the dealer has to have for showroom and demo purposes - which they are not allowed to sell straight away).
If that guy can somehow prove he was 1st on the list he needs to contact the importer straight away. They do not tolerate this from their dealers.

I sympathize with the guy, but it does sound like he may be partly to blame. Still shitty of the dealer to do this, if what he has written is true.

There is always two sides of a story. Especially, one like this. This is only the one side and I don't take it [the story] to the bank.

I have never got or ask to a receipt when leaving a deposit at my dealers and have purchased between the my family over 8 cars be it VW, Audi or Porsche within the last 5 years.

I can't believe that any dealer especially an excusive dealership like Audi would do such a thing. The dealer have a lot more to lose than the customer's deposit, Audi will no doubt check the matter out and if things aren't right the dealer could lose it's dealership.

No sorry, I reckon it's someone calling the dealer bluff and trying to get something out of them.
Search and you will find the truth.
