There's a two turbo 3.0v6TDi version coming and it will form part of a sports diesel line-up. You could call it a diesel S5 if you like.

new picture.
Hans.
Man does that thing look like the XK from the door back.
Back to the spec, I reckon the DSG won't be here until the A4 to help it's launch from a technical point of view. And I feel this is when the S5 and S4 will get valvelift to give both models a slight boost in power.
What's evryone's opinion on this.

Hans, there's lots of unseen pics on the audiusa site in the media gallery
Hans, I am wondering will the RS4/5 be released at the same time and if so will that be two years from now or in other words a year from the A4 launch?
I don't think you are right about the RS5/4 will be the first to get valvelift, well at least with those power figure as that would mean a 100~115hp hike in power over the S5/4, highly unlikely unless the S4/S5 get a boost as well.

By the Roadjet Concept the power hike was 45 hp over the normal 255 hp engine.
And it would be 40 hp over the A8 engine, and just 15 hp in the A5.
If Valve-lift can do the same by a V8 engine you will have at leased a 435 hp engine.
Or a 460-465 hp one.
Hans.
Isn't it a bit early to be talking about RS models? RS6 isn't even here yet, there's talk of a TT RS and now a RS5. Just seems like too many RS models on the cards when truth is there's only been 1 in recent years.
I am not so confident about Audi Valvelift anymore. The one on the V6 engine (2.8 and 3.2) doesn't appear as advanced as variable systems that the competition has or the one on the one on the Roadjet Concept. But an S5 at launch (was supposed to debut at New York in April) is a good sign.
Chewym,
I think there is room for improvement in the 3.2L VL engine. Audi should be able to make it 320hp (3.2 * 100) if they really want to.
That could be true but it would still be low on torque when compared to other 300 hp+ V6 with displacement of 3.5 liters. But we will see what happens. Audi's 7 speed DSG can lessen the power defecit of the A5 compared to some other competiton but it is hiding right now. Multitronic is an interesting option as well but is it available for Quattro?
True. Although I like V8 better than big V6, I agree that Audi should make a 3.6L V6 with VL for A4/A5. Maybe they are...That could be true but it would still be low on torque when compared to other 300 hp+ V6 with displacement of 3.5 liters.
BTW, does any one know why the S5 uses more fuel than the A6/A8 4.2 FSI. The S4 has much poorer fuel economy than the A6/A8. I thought it was because the engine was somehow changed to fit the S4, I thought that the S5 would have no problems with this as it is bigger. I hope this isn't because the S5 has 4 extra horsepower over the A6/A8 4.2 FSI.
What i have understand is that Audi uses Valve-lift for fuel savings in the A5 3.2 V6 engine rather than for power increase.
Hans.
All whispers in the right places, much in the same way as the S5 would be there at launch.
You have to remember that like awd systems, VAG are at the fore-front of diesel technology and with the introduction of the R10 race car Audi will want to be leaders in performance diesels.
They have listen to the public on releasing the performance models sooner and the demand is out there for a performance diesel Audi.
