    v10 R8 vs updated gallardo

i do not think the v10 is delayed. it has always been expected in the summer of 2008 CY and it will show then, probably at the next paris show or geneva of 2008....

also. i would be surprised if it made any more than 500 hp (officially, since most have agreed the V8 makes between 420 and 440). the gallardo's V10 cannot be manipulated much more than it already has. at 550 i think it is capped out. and so an audi V10, while capable of much more (perhaps) will only be allowed to produce an amount that is far away enough from the lambo's to help justify the lambo's, dare i say, existence?

the gallardo will probably be updated without a price increase too. it now essentially is a bit slower than the F430 while costing a bit more, if i am not mistaken, here in the USA.

the future of lambo is uncertain. audi has already stopped pumping money into r and d at lambo and now the r and d depends only on their own (lambo's) profits........

heck. audi's ownership itself is uncertain!
    Past- A4, TT, S4

    Present- R8 V10

So the big question here is....Is Lamborghinni profitable?...If not, R&D will not do what they're supposed to...if this happens Lambo will be eaten by Ferrari and Ho!...surprise...Porsche(who incidentally happens to own 29%of VAG, and now has applied for 3 board seats). As you said, the future of Lambo is uncertain.

    Audi could lie.
On paper the engine would produce say....480ps or 490ps (anything listed over 500would psychologically be too close to Lambo, even if they had 550ps in the future)
Then have the motor actually produce 500-520ps.
This should still leave enough of a performance gap to justify the Lambos existence when considering horsepower and weight differences between the R8 & Gallardo.

If there is to be a V10 R8 it needs to have 500ps to justify its superiority over the V8 model (which if you are to believe the rumours, has closer to 440ps anyway )

The R8 V10 will be 550hp like the next Gallardo.

There is not enough room for the V10 TwinTurbo o the next RS6, neither for the V12 TDI.

    Cheers from Paris,
    Frederic

    Hmm... 6.0L V12 TDI 500hp/1000Nm
Here are few of my own thoughts:
-R8 with that engine will weight around 2000kg(engine weight is 313kg!)
    -kg/hp ratio is then only 4(R8 4.2L V8 weights 1560kg, ratio is here 3.71kg/hp)
-V12 TDI is mandetory with automatic gearbox! I hate an idea of automatic diesel sportscar...
-diesel engine sound... Even in 6.0L V12 version, it is still diesel engine.
-weight distribution with 6.0L V12 TDI will be 70% rear 30% front(with 4.2L V8 it is 45% front, 55% rear, ideal for mid-engine sportcar), completely wrong IMHO for mid-engine sportscar.

R8 will get V10 version somewhere in the end of next year(R10?) but, as far as my source told me NO diesel in R8 is planned for production...
