    Snoopers for my RS4...any suggestions?

    Hi guys,

I'm in the market for a Snooper (Radar detector) for my RS4. I was just wondering if any of you can reccomend a good one. I want one that detects EVERYTHING - mobile, hand held...all of them. Not bothered if it doesn't have SAT NAV as the car has it.

The Snooper brand seems to have good reviews as well as Beltronics?

I would be particularly interested in the views of anyone who has got one in the UK.

Also, any views of Laser jammers? There not illegal YET in the UK I don't think.

    Cheers people

I just bought a Valentine One of e-bay. It always gets the highest scores in Car&Driver, Motortrend, Road&Track etc, but it comes at a price...

I've got an Escort Passport 8500 X50 and a Valentine 1, the V1 has a much better range. Both suck for laser. Currently looking into laser jamming and considering "Blinder" system ( http://www.blinder.dk/ ). Curious to know others views on laser protection.

I used to use a Snooper with radar and laser detection, but I got so many false alarms from shop door openers triggering the radar detector and bright low sun triggereing the laser detector that I gave up with it and now just use a GPS based database device.

The real problems with laser detectors are 1) unless you slam on the brakes the instant it detects a laser pointed at you, you will still be detected as going over the limit; and 2) the laser gun is usually pointed at the grille not the windscreen so a detector in the windscreen may not detect the laser anyway.

    Cheers guys,

PetrolDave, do you mind me asking which model of Snooper you had? I only ask, because a friend of mine just bought a Snooper (can't remeber the model name..but i think it was around Ģ250) and it seems quite good and gives quite advanced warnigs of cameras etc.

I'm also thinking of going for a laser jamming device also for precisely the reasons you have suggested - i.e by the time you've hit the breaks, its too late!

    Anyone on rs6.com used these?

    Thanks

    Taz

There is an alternative to the snooper wich is a s illegal as the snooper and similar devices.
Is a transparent film produced bu 3M that does reflect any type of light. This can keep away most of the cameras I guess.
Unfortunately in Italy now they have a new system that reads all the numberplates of all the vehicles passing and it times you over the distanceof 20 km (every couple km it scans again). Then the computer calculates the average and the fine is automatically sent home... No Snooper can escape that as it's just a digital camera that keeps on recordin 24/7.... Sick

I have a Bell , canīt remember the name , and works very well (in Spain there are no Detectors for the Radar Detectors ) . The frequencies of the radars in Europe are not the same that the ones used in America so you have to check it , they are different frequencies even between some countries of Europe .
I am trying to install the RoadPilot , works so well , in Spain at last , that is almost impossible to obtain becuse it is sold almost inmediatly . It is a dual purpose warning device , for one side is GPS , for the fixed cams , lasers and the ones that MR USER says , have the best database and update it frequently . For the other side it can be switched to a Radar Antenna (the one with my detector even works) and then detects the movil radars . (In their website the Radar Antenna does not appear in the English part , but is in the Spanish , although it is ilegal in both countries)
Someone told me that they are developing a system against the Laser guns (jammer) based on a parking sensor , that way is legal , seems to work very very good but not on sale yet .
Maybe I am wrong but with the new digital cameras all the transparent films and alike do not work , now they even have black lights for the night ...:MTM:

We are living the end of an era so enjoy the car as much as you can , because soon we get executed for speeding , no matter of the car .

I have the blinder m 40 jammer installed on my car ( a4 dtm ) .... it works like a dream ( NICELY HIDDEN BEHIND THE GRILL) , I will be transfering it to my rs4 ( jan 2007 )
the problem with the detectors is that by the time they have made a noise it is toooo late they have got your speed already

the only problem is that the rs4 does not have the same grill( HONEYCOMB) and I dont know where i will install it,,,,, any ideas ???

You could be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice. There has been a mixed bag of prosecutions regarding these and the government keeps talking up making the sale/use of them illegal through specific legislation. Kind of a risk to use one, would you rather have 3 points and a fine or risk eating xmas dinner in prison with your back to the wall .... decisions decisions!

The best version of all is to have a mate in another car drive a couple of miles in front and check there is no police about.

    Thanks lam4r

I wasn't too sure if they were legal or not. On the 'Snooper' website it said it was a 'grey' area. The only thing is 3 points on my license would be like a prison sentence once the insurance hears of it!!

Leadie, funny you should mention that trick, a few weeks back I had to head up to Wales. However, my Dad went up the M4 a few hours before I did. We both zero'd our mileage at home and He told me the exact points of all the mobile and fixed cameras all the way to Cardiff! It was great!

As for the choice of radar detector, the V1 Valentine seems to be the choice of the USA crew, but not really used in Europe.

    Any more suggestions?

As tazsura and the other UK member will already know, there is talks of clamping down on not only mobile phone use while driving but many other distraction which are deemed dangerous while driving. The British Justice/Police system is going mad it seems, their are now looking at fine for not only drinking, eating and smoking while driving which are acceptable points but also listening to the radio and even talking to a passenger. Now that in my opinion would be way too far and if the law was pass then it would prove beyond any doubt that the world had gone mad.
