R8 could break the 200mph barrier!!!!

Autocar are now stating that the R8 will be the first Audi ever to break tradition with the 155mph restriction but also break the 200mph barrier with a claimed top speed of 205mph. It's not sure if they are talking about the 4.2L v8 or the v10 but as that is no release date for the v10 would lead me to believe that it is the v8 they are talking about.

This would put it not only ahead of the Gallardo, F430, 997Turbo and Z06 but miles ahead of the M5 and M6 as well as in touching distance of the 599 and Murcielago.

that car will be faster than the F430 and the gallardo. probably with less power. the R8 chassis is a tour de force. it is extremely efficient, well-designed, and state of the art. the magnetic suspension system does wonders. it truly is the latest and the best.....outmatched perhaps only by it's bigger brother, the veyron. all this is what allows it to achieve so much with so little.

i hang my hat on this-------- the mag reviews will prove it......

No way can the R8 with only 420hp break the 200mph barrier. If the Z06 can't do it with more hp and more torque, not to mention less weight, what chance would the V8 R8 have? About a year ago, Jethro from EVO tried to break the 200mph barrier (on the Autobahn) in a Pagani S and could get 199mph... no more. And that was with a car that made 600+hp.

Maybe with the V10, but there is no way they'll do it with the V8. None. My guess is 185-190mph. And in my guess, isn't that good enough?

And BTW, the RS 6 plus was technically the first Audi to break with tradition on the 155mph speed limit.

(and maybe this is also a poor man's justification) i will be plenty happy with my V8. i mean jeez. the fastest i have been in my S4 was 160. and even then for only about 2 seconds.

185 mph is enough for me. since i'll never see it anyway .......

i am more focused on the handling of the car......

The RS6+ had a topspeed of 280 Km/h.
The new R8 will do 301 Km/h.

I do agree with both of you, I was just highlighting what AUTOCAR had writen in it's Quick News section. This is not what they think but what Audi is supposed to be claiming as the now top speed of the car.

Maybe the car is making a lot more than the 420ps claimed. Aerodynamics might be coming into play as to why the Z06 and 997Turbo can't break through the 200mph barrier.

I think Autocar missunderstood what Audi was telling them, but you never know. I do think there is a chance that the V10 could do it, but the R8 V8 will be fast enough at 190ish...

No, the RS4 can't do better unlimited it will reach ± 282-285 Km/h.
And why 301 Km/h i don't know, it is just what the factory say it will do.

I don't know why AUTOCAR are now stating the R8 can do a claimed 205mph but there must be something in it for them to run a piece on it.

301km/h is supposed to be Audi's claimed top speed for the R8, so maybe a insider has leaked that it can really do a lot more and that's fine by me but my problem with the article is that they say the word claimed is this implies that Audi are releasing this statement.
