Further Weight Discussions and My formula for what would be perfect car

I've noticed that there are always these rumors about low weight. I've red about a possible up coming bmw supercar weighing only 2,800lbs. Whats the chances of this? To fully fill the car with luxury that seems to be the standard especially for a bmw would make this difficult. Look at the R8, special chassis and all but still not very light although I woulddn't call it heavy. But how much does weight really matter in a street car like these? Should we be disappointed in the R8s weight? Should we keep hoping for a new car, perhaps the BMW Z10?
I must be honest these are the specs I think about:
    3000lbs
    100-120k dollars
Rear drive I guess althoguh AWD fine but heavier
    mid engine
    500 hp high revving engine
elegant interior, simple and nice to the point but good design and light
    stablility systems and all
lightweight without going all out racecar like. Softer then a GT3 but as light.

    Pretty simple formula I think.
THe R8 in V10 rwd form may almost accomplish it.
Anyone know about the rumored mercedes and bmws.
A porsche cayman turbo or rs would be an interesting car as well.
