there was a rumor that the car would come out from the beginning with V8 as well as a V10 model called the R10. Another rumor just came out about them showing a turbo V10 at paris.
A 610 hp v10 twin turbo in the r8 would be quite a suprise.
I doubt it. The V10 for the R8 is rumored only to have 510 hp, not enough juice for the RS6
They can Turbo the V10. A guy on Lambo-power.com has a turbo Gallardo. He's car is making 679 the rear wheel. Since Audi version of the Gallardo engine has a larger displacement, i think it could make more power.
Of course a factory turbo v10 will make a lot of power. It isn't going to happen because then the R8 would be spanking the gallardo. The gallardo isn't getting it because then the gallardo would be spanking the murcielago. Bottom line: it isn't happening.Originally Posted by m3fan

I understand that the R8 has "only" 420hp because it should be slower than gallardo, but why Audi can't do a car which is faster than gallardo???
R8 is a very nice car( for me the nicest) but i don't know what are the competitors if not the gallardo and F430. Maybe the 911s or the GT3?I really don't know in which category the R8 belongs...
On the other hand....a so called R10 with about 600hp is a thing that Audi really needs to.
Are we gone mad if we start to say "Only to have 510 hp".
We don't need stronger engines. we need lighter cars.
btw, Audi only will produce small 4 cylinder turbo engines and maybe a 5 cylinder turbo in the future if nothing have change by then.
A VR6 turbo is also not go to happen, that's for the after market to do with turbo's and Compressors.
Maybe we will see in the future a 350 hp 3.6 liter VR6 FSI Valvelift engine.

It's true but after the 1560kg R8 with "only" a N/A V8 i don't think that they will build very light cars...unfortunately.
hello, i'm new here.
my guess for the RS6-engine is the V10 with no turbos. for me its the same story like with S4-RS4. same engine, but more output for the RS.
A biturbo 5.2l engine would be nice, but is there enough space in the engine-bay??
also for the R8 - a V10 with two turbos is a big and heavy engine. i wouldn't wonder if the V8 will be the only engine for this car...
