Yes it can be removed however the mtm chip replaced the factory soldered chip and added a little extra circut board in there instead.
Finding an RS6 exclusive (only) chip is what this post related...

I have a MTM tuned old school solder in chip style ecu in my car now.
I am in the process of gathering all the associated hardware for my 6 speed swap and will need to update to the AMD tune but...

BTW
VMR makes a nice wheel, low pressure cast, good metallurgy, tight tolerances, decent finish quality. They don't normalize at as high a temp as maybe they should so there is a bit of "stress"...

Most aftermarket wheel in cast are cast from 5056-5156 aluminum, every ones got there own add mixes like boron, magnesium, nickle, silicone,tin, zinc, manganese ect...
