So I had the car up on the lift looking at the transmission pan seeing if I thought I could do the filter replace, refill and I noticed a small leak around the prop shaft. How hard is that seal to replace?

simple search..... On the 0 to 10 scale. I'd say it's a 3.5 difficulty...

Mine was about 3 hours worth of labor for a total of $350 including the parts.
this was supposed to my next thing on my to do list for the car, meanwhile the jet suction pump decided to crack so it's still on my next to do list :)
we must keep in mind that the housing which contains the seal has been re-developed to solve those leakings...dont know the partnumber.
when mine started to leak the Audi stealer only replaced the seal, not the housing...now audi is willing to have it fitted with the labour for free, but still wanted almost 400 euros for the job...so they are screwin me big time..
i am not sure if mine has ever been changed, but if it wasn't and it lasted for a bit more than 100k km then i am ok with just replacing the seal unless over the time the housing gets damaged somehow and then only by changing it all together would solve the problem...let us know if you change the housing what's the part # as certainly next month this is on my next to do list...
Does anyone know if they are replacing the housing in the US? Any chance it's a recall? I can dream, can't I?
Give a local Audi stealer a call...
what is the part # ?

thanks a lot Killan! these are the updated part numbers i presume?
yes:
01V-409-809-A (Flange/Shaft)
01V-409-524-B (Cover with seal)
I have developed a pretty bad leak at the prop shaft and considering instead of just replacing the old design seal, upgrading and flange/shaft and newer seal. I noticed that it was also mentioned to replace the cover (01v409524B) in this thread. Is the cover replacement necessary. Is the cover a newer design as well or will just the new flange/shaft and seal be all I will need.
I did some research and confirmed that I do need the updated cover to go with the updated flange and seal. I have looked everywhere and cannot find anyone who sells this part. Anyone on this forum have a source I could try or know of a parts car I could find one. The part number for the updated cover is
01V-409-524-B <- new cover with seal (ZF part number 1060-236-063)
