Oil Temperature

Mr John Barker in next month's EVO magazine (fast fleet) during a trip saw 102 degrees C oil temperature on the dash display and worried.So he stopped the RS4 to check the dipstick.My question is what is the usual degrees you see in your cars guys because i have seen more of 110 degrees C a lot of times and my service advisor tells me that it is normal. I remember also that during a test drive on autobahn a few months ago in Germany I saw on dash 114 degrees C and the outside temperature was -10 degrees C and my co driver from factory told me that it is normalSo why Mr Barker worried?

In my case it really depends on how I drive the car.

If I cruise at 2500rpm my temp is around 90C but as soon as I get around 3000-3500rpm the temp climbs to 100-108C.
And I've reached 128C during a lapping session.

Remember that this is synthetic oil that can reach much higher temp before boiling (200C compared to 115C for fossil Oil).

i got the same results as bigrick, my oil temp is usually sitting around 98-102C unless i start pushing the car, the highest i've gone up to after maxing out the car at 250km/hr was around 110-112C

We are all around the same temperature 100-110.

Mr. User dont' push to much please :D :D :D By the way 6.5L of oil is just amaizing. Here there is some big difference between each RS i.e. a friend of mine never added any oil for the first 8000km and his baby was not missing any.

On my side 1.2L for 1800km.

P.S. I look forward to move my oil temp to 130 upon completion of my break in period :king: 8000rpm full throttle :revs: on a nice twisty road should bring oil up there....

Normal Crusing (Cool Weather): 210-212 F
Normal Crusing (Hot Weather ): 216-222 F
Foot-in-Kitchen (Cool Weather): 218-224 F
Foot-in-kitchen (Hot Weather ): 222-230 F

Track Temp 85 Degrees, 7 Laps, 1 1/2 mile course: 273 F

I read somewhere that the normal operating temperature for the Rs4 is from 90º to 120º C , my maximum was 129º C , and lowered the revs as it was too hot outside and the car doesn´t seems to like the hot weather .

drove up to 6000rpm for 40min on twisty montain road today. Temperature was 28-30 degree. I reach 115-118 on the oil temp and would have been much more at 8000rpm:king: this will be for next week as I just reached 2000km finally:race:
