425 hp. 0-60 4.2 seconds at best. an EVO IX can do it in 4.5.

the upcoming lexus LF-A with a V10 and 500 hp will be at the same price as the V8 R8 but much faster---ouch.

the V10 R8 will likely cost 10K more than the V8 version and is slated to produce 500hp. there is no way that engine will be turbocharged. if you take the NA V10 at 450 hp and turbocharge it it would make close to 600. no room for the gallardo at 50K more.

hence- it has to be NA. the RS6 engine maybe turbocharged............

New R8 will use following engines:
4.2L V8 420hp NA DI
5.2L V10 520hp NA DI(from 2008)

This info is from internal Audi preproduction R8 presentation.
I even saw final exterior and interior pics, car is awsome!
BTW, Gallardo will use 550hp DI engine from MY2008...

Here is also a link to R8 video(sorry if repost):

I think that everybody has to keep in mind that AUDI is part of big group (VAG/PORSCHE), and that every car has its place on very BIG market offer of that same group, R8 has its place and there is going to be, don't expect anything ''radical'' to change.

I wouldn't worry if I were you. The RS4 can do 0-60 in 4.3. Here is a link to a magazine scan (Road and Track).

I think that the R8 will be at least 400 pounds or about 10% lighter. I think that a time of under 4 seconds is definately possible with the 4.2 liter FSI.

The Gallardo is 1570Kgs and the R8 is believed to be a little bigger with maybe 2+2 seating, so one can purpose that it will be a little heavier say 1630Kgs. It's down at best 70hp on the Gllardo and that's if it gets 450hp not 420hp, so if the Lambo takes 4 seconds to get to 62mph how will the R8 better it with less power and more weight:vhmmm: unless Quattro makes all the difference and that's only if it's not using the Lambo awd system. How the RS4 did that time I will never know, was it at a drap strip maybe.

Probably, I think all US mags test at dragstrips, but the Gallardo convertible with 520 hp in a different mag (Car&Driver) got basically the same time 4.3 0-60 and 12.8 trap, also probably on a drag strip. So I think that the RS4 is just a very good accelerating car, especially to 0-60.

Then it must all be down to the Quattro system. :rs4addict

Here is a video of the RS4, 0-62.5 (0-100) in 4.4 seconds on a race track, not a drag strip. The R8 should be really quick.

I think the only way the R8 will break through the 4 second barrier will be with the use of DSG. That will allow them to shorten the first three gears for better 0-62 and 0-100mph times and not be hampered by the time taken in changing gear.

You see I knew there was a reason why the R8 will get DSG.:D

I don't know, the Gallardo has a pretty fat torque curve of it's own. And you have to admit it has more of it and for more of the time.

I'm afraid that the DSG is not an option, as you konw, the Golf GTI, Audi S3,Golf R32 are using the DSG,and these cars have only 200HP to 250HP...

It seems that at first the R8 will come with the RS4 V-8 and a manual. Some time later there wil be a V-8 with DSG and later (next gen RS6) V-10 and DSG. There are rumors of Lamborghini's E-Gear at first as well. Audi is working on a DSG version that accepts more power. A 7 speed DSG (S-Tronic) was shown on the Roadjet Concept. But that car only has 243 foot-pounds of torque.
