Finally the new TT 3.2L has met it's main rival, the Z4 Coupe in a head to head in Autocar magazine. Very interesting review which see the TT narrowly winning the test. As usual the BMW was reported to be the more entertaining especially in hairpin bends though neither car won the more open corners where both car were very well received (TT very neutral if you keep the power on through the corner, power shifts to the rear wheels).

With the exception of the RS4, this is the first Audi which has won a test with includes a BMW in Autocar, you see Autocar testers are well know to favour BMW over most other brands, but not in this case. The TT was the better more complete car, it offered over 95% the entertainment, cornered quicker (up to 5mph quicker through the corners) and it's engine had the more usable power (pulls from 1000rpm right to the red line), unlike the BMW which needs to worked above 4500rpm to get anything. They praised the interior, which was miles better than the Z4's (made the Z4's look plain and basic) and the extra practicality (4 seats and a better boot). The summary went like this - if you drive only on back-roads (narrower so easier to position between the hedges) and like the extra entertainment of rwd (able to kick the tail out) buy the Z4, otherwise the TT is the better package.

Though they still rate the Cayman top of the coupe, I think this is a major step forward for Audi and will help it top the sales charts, second time round.:ttaddict:
