2009 Audi A7 Spy Photos

Audi of Ingolstadt will release this fall a concept car for the upcoming new Audi A7. Although the production version is not expected to be due before 2009 - first mules of the four door coupe have been sighted taking repeated laps at Germany’s race track Nürburgring. The prototype can be distinguished from its wider fenders, bigger tyres and expensive alloy wheels - painted black. The production car will get a luxury style four seat interior, frameless doors, a glass roof, and offer a choice of six different fuel and diesel V6 and V8 engines, and for the top of the line version, the Lamborghini V10.

This new model by Audi will be aimed directly at the competing Mercedes CLS, which became a best seller recently, due to the fact that Daimler-Chrysler is still the only one with this type of car on the market.

Therefore, not only Audi but also Jaguar and Volkswagen are striving to get a rival up and going as soon as possible. Jaguar’s version will be the upcoming XJ replacement and Volkswagen is developing a Passat-based coupe with four frameless doors as well.

The photos are showing: two computer images giving an artist’s impression of how the new A 7 could look like upon its release and two pictures of a prototype mule at Nürburgring.

For me, this car is NOT the next A7 mule, but the new A4 - A5 chassis test mule. We can see the really shorter front overhang, and the wider front track, wider thant the current RS4 one ! :)

It looks like a incredibly fast and high precision handling car ! Really impressive... I hope the new A5 will have this configuration at starting, and the new RS4-5 will have the DRC system : this should make this cars the fastest on the track, far beyond the new M3...

The A7 photoshoped impression is... a big crap ! :(

As i saw the picture first, i thougt the same, maybe a A5 mule.
But Hans G. Lehmann is doing his job for a while now. And he should have some good sources.

Maybe audi has done good work on this, so that everybody thinks that it's an A5 testmule and not an A7.

To the computer pictures. Yes i think similar, but they're going into the right way, if you ask me.

I think it either an A4 or A5 mule, the wheelbase is only a little longer than the current A4 and this is because the front wheels are moved further forward. I would have thought that the A7 would be closer in wheelbase to the A6/A8 and not the A4 which this model is.

The track width is interesting, much bigger than the RS4. Looks like the next Audi are living up to the promise of better handling.:0:

I don´t know what platform it is but the track width is not so bigger . the rear looks the same as the Rs4 and the front are forward , where the car taper of , looking wider . See the line between the wheels .
The front wheels are much forward that´s sure .

Wasn´t Audi designing a common platform for A4/5/6 ?

Just my opinion , no expert here .

Back end looks very like new S-Class. The whole thing shamelessly apes the Mercedes-Benz CLS. I can also see Chris Bangle flame surfacing creeping in along the flanks and lower door sills. This is not a good thing. The last thing i want is my Audi to look like a BMW or a Merc for that matter.

Agree with tailpipe about the CG Images .

Does this mule have different front and rear license plates, or do they actually have 2 test mules out there?

@eckoman

Good hint man, haven't noticed this yet.

But only one mule for a new model-series would be not enough i think.

This cars are very strange... It looks like they"ve done the real wings and front bumper, juste like if it was a pre production update of the RS4...

So, perhaps it is a mule for the B8 chassis (A4-A5).... I think it is. But... the new A4 and A5 will have this wider tracks ?

The car is really beautifull with a reduced overhang... that's for sure ! The handling might be greater.

Questions :
- this mule is the updated RS4 to be avaible at the begining of the new M3 ?
- Or is it the new standard B8 platform, as we can see the standard diesel exhaust ?

I thought the spy photos is showing a S4...
But it's a bit different.
At least, the wheel base is longer, and it fits a much larger mud guard.
And for the computer generate picture, it's not really good.
It looks like a 'mix' of BMW 5series and the Mercedes Benz CLS, just like what Tailpipe said.
Also, the head lights and the one piece frame came from the Q7 in this CG picure. The long engine bay looks so alike to that of 5Series...
I don't think it's attractive, and it looks like a car from 'Crash Day',
Ridge Driver etc. Where you can see a car which has the lights of a NSX, the tail of Skyline, and the front of an Acura sedan...

This might sound kind of stupid for me to say and sorry but those top ones they look more like the Audi RS4 maybe at its concept level.

This car have nothing to do with the A7.
It is a testmule for the new A4/A5 B8.

I hope this photoshop from WorldCarFans is close to what the new A7 will look like. I love the look of the Mercedes CLS and rate it one of the best looking Mercs and this A7 is even better!!!

sorry i made a post about the new 7 model,,,did not know there was one already (a few for that matter)
what woudl an RS7 be like? I was reading the new car and driver they talked abotu the s8 and how it really isn't a rocket even though its fitted with the lambo engine ...i am assuming then that here is where AUDI is putting its speed
