Maserati has announced the MC12 Corsa, a supercar which it plans to build to order "for a select number of Maserati clients". Only 12 will be made.

The car's been developed from the MC12 GT1 type which won the 2005 FIA GT Manufacturers Cup, and "will allow its owners to test their driving capability in the most exclusive gentlemen drivers’ environment."

A clear response to Ferrari's FXX programme, under which driver-clients become test drivers for Ferrari, the MC12 Corsa will only be used on track during private test sessions, or at exhibition activities organised by Maserati. It won't be homologated either for road use or racing.

The Maserati MC12 Corsa will be priced at €1 million (£685,210) plus tax starting in autumn 2006.

And for that price, you can expect that there'll be a few added options too, to make it even more exclusive. Wonder if Aston Martin will follow this path...
