The new RS6 will have 600HP and is going to be launched summer 2007 for around £80,000, which is more than an M5, but its faster and better built than an M5. There is also talk of an RS8, but it is only talk.

$138,000

Its official Audi/Quattro Gmbh is smoking CRACK !

For that price it BETTER have 600+Horses.

I hope that is a misprint on the GBP and its supposed to be a Euro symbol.

As mutch i would love to see ''RS8", i am allmost 100% sure there is not going to be one, time will tell.

Far as 80 000 pounds price tag for new ''RS6'' is conserd, they must be going crazy or that car is going to have absolutly full option and some more ''gizmos'' (hp) in that price, yet again, time will tell.

I think you may be mistaken, 007.

As someone who follows the car market very closely, I cannot see Audi charging £80,000 for the RS6. Even at £60,000, the last version was a niche car. The RS6's nearest competitor is obviously the M5 and the latest version sells for a cool £63,000. The BMW's standard specification is remarkably complete, so you don't need to spend much more to have a perfect sports saloon. Hiking the price of the RS6 to £80K could result in a car that doesn't sell.

The other unavoidable factor about RS models is depreciation. in fact, most cars above £50K lose value faster than the market average. This is why the market thins out noticeably above £75,000.

Personally, I would be very surprised if the new RS6 cost much more than £65,000. The new S6 costs around £55,000. I think many punters will be reluctant to shell out a further £25,000 for an additional 160 bhp. For that kind of money, you could buy an S6 and a standard 2.0 litre diesel/ petrol A6 model as well.

Hell, you could even tune-up S6 yourself for £5K and get comparable performance. Speaking of performance, it is certainly true that Audi has tested a twin-turbo 600 bhp version around the Nuremburg Ring. In fact, they've even pushed it to 650 bhp, but this was for endurance testing to see what the V-10's limits are, not because they seriously intend to market such a car. In all probability, the next RS6 will have somewhere between 550 and 600 bhp. I would put my money on around 581 bhp or 100 bhp more than the previous version.

The other unsubstantiated rumour about the RS6 is that Audi may actually offer a choice of two engines. A new V-12 diesel is under development offering power, refinement and frugality. Whether it ultimately finds its way into a production RS6 is unclear., but fuel economy is becoming more and more important. It may not matter that a Bugatti Veyron travelling flat-out can empty its 100 litre fuel tank in 12 minutes; but an everyday supersaloon has to do better than 12-14 mpg. If the latest RS4's has an Achilles heel, then it is this.

As other posts point out, we're still quite a long way from the new RS6 being brought to market. We're talking about a late 2007 debut for a market launch in 2008, but even the timing let alone the technical specification has yet to be finalised.

Between now and then, a couple of oil price shocks could change everything. Of course, I may be wrong. If I am I'll be the first to eat my words. But I won't be buying an RS6 with 600bhp that does 12mpg for £80K.

I agree, I'd rather have the new RS4 and have it tuned!
